The story so far:

During The Secret Seven's fifth exciting adventure, Go Ahead Secret Seven, reports start to come to Peter that one of the Seven has fallen madly in love with him and wants to...



Which of The Seven do YOU think has fallen for Peter?
I think we can safely eliminate Scamper..



It all began on the way to school when the aggravating Susie told Peter that one of the Seven had fallen in love with him.
Peter's face was stern and he refused to believe this..



At the next meeting Peter tried to shrug these thoughts off.
But it seemed even to him, that one of the Seven was gazing at him with complete adoration and undisguised affection.
What could Peter do...



Of course, nothing like that could get past one with the feminine intuition of Janet, Pete's sister.
She delicately, and sensitively raised the issue with the young lady in question washing up after the meeting.
"Do you fancy the socks off our esteemed leader Pete?"

The next day:

The next day a diary was found not far from the shed.
It had been dropped inadvertently. It had no name inside and contained a fragment of a romantic poem..

Peter listened as the inevitable facts of the gravity of the situation slowly started to sink in.

Sure, he'd known of affection before, but that was from the likes of Scamper, his family and that odd guy at school with one glass eye and a huge train set called Rex...but nothing like this..

Pete does a runner:



Pete raced out of the shed in a blind panic.
Colin ran after him, his rubber soled shoes making no sound on the pavement...




But Peter was the leader of the Secret Seven and soon gave Colin and the breathless Jack and George the slip..



In desperation, the boys even yelled down a manhole, promising Peter they would protect him from all romantic entanglements as they had previously signed up to do in Peter's exhaustive 'Secret Seven manual and operations pre nuptials charter.'

Young love, such a romantic but slightly terrifying story.

Meanwhile, what of Peter?

He had successfully given the lads the slip, doubled back on himself and headed for the edge of the village.
As a man of order, rules and regulations, he needed the opinion of someone he could trust implicitly...
a bloke in authority..

He had of course memorised the poem and written it out in his own hand. He found PC 49 and handed the note to him.
PC 49 explained that:

Peter's head was certainly reeling now!

It seemed like a complicated business, this love stuff and everything that went along with it.
But Peter the ever cautious chap decided to seek out a respected second opinion.

He went back to his family farm and sought out the old gardener.
Peter didn't pull any punches. He boldly told the wise old gardener that he had come to ask him about love..



The gardener's response surprised Peter a little, as he advised him to listen to Nat King Cole's song, 'It's All In The Game'..

Peter raced into the farm, wound up the old gramophone and listened carefully to the words of the song...

I can imagine Barbara and Peter having a 'meeting' of the Secret Two but Susie comes along to spoil their fun.

Peter wasn't stupid. He knew he had a reputation for being a bit pedantic and slightly overbearing.
That's why he sought out a third and final person to quiz about the vagaries of love..

This time he reached out to The Grumpy Greengrocer..
His advice shocked him.

"You stay well clear of women, young Sir.
They'll wreck your head, clean out your wallet and blow your mind!"

Peter didn't like the sound of that, so he reported The Grumpy Greengrocer to PC49..

"Peter, is this the man that gave you bad romantic advice?"

A few days later:

Peter has been lying low, hoping the whole business will blow over.
His loyal sister Janet, makes some snacks and hunts him down to his favourite place on their farm, and they have good heart to heart:

On the advice of his most sensible sister, Janet, Peter decides to pen his very first love letter.

After many re-writes and scrapped attempts, he is confident he has finally got it right and transmitted the deepest feelings of his heart onto the printed page:

"Dear Madam,
It has come to my attention....
