Wednesday 4pm is getting nearer..

Yes, the day Pete & Barb have agreed to meet in Tinker's Copse at 4pm is looming large.

Tensions are running high after Peter went down to get the Financial Times to read with his cornflakes and instead found a 'Jackie' Secret Seven Special Magazine dedicated to himself, Barbara and The Secret Seven's Secrets....



The article on The Secret Seven Why So Glum? Particularly offended him..

Why, as the leader of The Secret Seven, wasn't he always chipper, cheerful, positive and upbuilding.
Hadn't he modelled himself on Churchill? What was the magazine talking about..

He decided to convene an URGENT Secret Seven meeting in the onion storage location (the shed) asap.



"Just look at this!" yelled Peter at the meeting. "We have a traitor in our midst. One of you here has BETRAYED The Secret Seven. Which one of you is behind this?"

There was an ominous, almost deafening silence...It was eventually broken by the sound of muffled snorting, suppressed chuckling, then an outright explosion of laughter coming from OUTSIDE the shed.

That could only mean one thing...

The Power Of Love Is A Curious Thing;
Stronger And Harder Than A Bad Girl's Dream.

After the meeting which had a least revealed that no-one from The Secret Seven had been disloyal, Peter felt unusually tired and decided to take a nap..

He drifted off into a deep sleep..



He dreamt he was looking in on some sort of gallery...he could see a lady in a picture frame.
The lady in the frame was herself looking at a large picture in a golden frame..



The picture she was looking at was The Secret Seven walking to the fair a few weeks ago..

He remembered that day..

Barbara had managed to prise Peter away from the group and seemed so enamoured with Peter's earnest chatter about the four different types of sheep dip they used on his family farm.

She had seemed captivated by Pete's chitter chatter about the farm's need for a new rotavator too.
She had steadily held his gaze and even laughed at one of his feeble jokes - did that mean anything? Peter asked himself...



He then went into a very deep sleep indeed.

Wednesday 6am..



The sound of the farm's cockerel awoke him, early Wednesday morning at 6am.
He rubbed his sleepy eyes and then remembered, that today was the day!!!

Sheep dip.. Rotavator.. Feeble joke Blah Blah..

Definite shades of "Two-Trees. Gloomy Water. Saucy Jane. Maggie knows"!

Completely in the grip of expected ecstasy, Peter gets ready for the big day.




By 8.30am he was dressed and ready.
But then doubt gripped him. A shirt and tie for the big day and a bag of bulls eyes?
What would Jack advise?

He nipped back up to his room and changed..



He donned his 'Sailor Sam' tee shirt - no, he still didn't feel right..
Off went the clothes again..

What about Barbara?

How was she getting on in the fashion department?
She was much more assured than Peter, with her slim figure and well cut clothes.
She knew pretty much anything looked good on her..

Her neat blonde hair looked fabulous under a stylish little black hat.
Walking around the village she noticed a reminder of the big day on the local village/police noticeboard..
It made her smile..



Viv had even pinned a brand new copy of Jackie on the board just for Barbara, which she unpinned gratefully...

How was Peter getting on?

Thankfully, his third change of clothes hit the spot and he felt properly dressed for his 'date'..



There goes Peter, with Scamper, happily on his way to Tinker's Copse...
We wish him well don't we everyone.
He works so hard bossing everyone around, sorry, Looking After Everyone - he deserves to be happy in love..

Peter doesn't know it, but along with us, he has three wise friends looking on, wishing him well too:



Yes, Off Duty PC49, The Old Gardener & even The Grumpy Greengrocer (out on parole) were watching kindly from afar, hoping and praying that the day was a big success for young Peter & Barbara...

Barbara sniffed and wiped her eye.

"Oh Barbie, I hope I haven't made you sad by confessing my love for you." said the leader of the Seven.

"No Peter" sniffed Barbara. "It's all these goddamned onions in the shed."

Dozens, if not one or two have begged for the story to continue just a little longer.
I have written more of the story for you.

WEDNESDAY 4PM - Tinker's Copse:

IT'S ALL IN THE GAME;
Soon he'll be there at your side with a sweet bouquet..

Peter (in third change of clothes) wound his way excitedly towards Tinker's Copse.
He had to go past the old quarry to get there, and it was then he bumped into the vision that was Barb..


She too had had a mad, last minute change of clothes and was wearing a gorgeous print flowery dress that stopped just above the knee and fluttered like a dancing butterfly in the soft, warm breeze..

She grabbed Peter confidently and they walked happily hand in hand towards Tinker's Copse...
Scamper ran slightly ahead, also excited, although he didn't quite know why.

OUR LAST SUMMER...

Just two more instalments left and then our little story is done..

Well, if you remember, we left Pete & Barb heading hand in hand towards Tinker's Copse.

They finally arrive and sit down together with Scamper..





Time seems to stand still as they chat together...

Peter is impressed by the way the light seems to dance off Barb's blond hair, making it shimmer like a perfect halo.

He knows he mustn't blow it, so he launches forth on his exciting plans to mechanise the farm, upgrade the cattle feeding systems and install six new culverts...

As you can well imagine, hearing all this from Peter soon makes Barb's heart begin to swoon and swoosh and yes even whoosh!!!

Unknown to Peter & Barb, they are being watched...



Yes, those scallywags Susie & Binky are hiding in the bushes, but they have been totally overcome by Peter's speech.

By the time he has finished promulgating about his plans for the farm and moved on to Robert Baden-Powell and Kipling, they melt and suddenly see Peter for the babe magnet elder statesman he really is...
