A few hours later...



The power of love is a curious thing, makes one man weep, another man sing.
In the case of the exacting mind of Peter, it made him anxious to know that his heart felt missive had reached its intended recipient.


"Will my letter be delivered yet?" he anxiously enquired of Janet.

"Don't be silly Peter, you only posted it three hours ago!"

Of course that was enough to make Peter even more anxious, so he grabbed Pam and headed for the post box.
The Postie was already there.
Putting on his most friendly demeanour and chirpy persona, Peter approached the Postie:



"Listen here my good man, your postbag contains a most important letter that must be delivered accurately, on time and with professional alacrity."

The Postie listened to all this with a bemused look on his face and simply replied, "In love are we young Sir!"...


Days went by....






Peter's young heart was in knots.
He couldn't sleep. His appetite waned.
Secret Seven meetings went out of the window...

Then, just as he had started to give up all hope of receiving a reply to his heartfelt missive, he heard loud shouts and screams from his sister Janet outside...



Peter (and Janet) pored over the message breathlessly.
It began..

URGENT. VERY IMPORTANT
INDEED.

Dear Peter,
After reading your recent letter I feel I must tell you that...

TO BE CONTINUED

I'm waiting for the continuation with bated breath!

CONTINUED..

"Wait, Janet, stop." said Peter. "We must inform The Secret Seven of these amazing developments!"

"Are you sure?" replied Janet. "Surely the contents of this letter are for YOU alone?"

But Peter was giddy and drunk on love. A meeting was hastily arranged in the shed right away..



Annoyingly, Peter would not let the Secret Seven actually read the letter..

But, just for you dear faithful reader, here's what the letter said..

Will Peter eat the cornflake heart when he's feeling peckish, I wonder?

Well, as you can imagine, a day or two before the assignation, Peter's lovesick tummy had turned to jelly.
According to his confidante Jack, it might even be a touch of the Woo Hoo Collywobbles..

Jack and Peter had a heart to heart, man to man:



Peter confided to Jack that he had written a reply to Barbs letter, listing the good qualities he, as the leader of the Secret Seven felt he brought to the table:



Jack studied Peter's letter for a long time. Then he spoke with gravitas, assurance and conviction:

"Look Pete, I've lived with Susie long enough to learn a few things about the ladies.
Don't send that letter. DO something romantic instead, like a nice box of chocs. That's what ladies want. Court them and bring some ROMANCE to the table!"
He added "Also, make sure you treat Barb's Mum with great respect and dignity too. That's VERY important Peter."

Amazingly, (probably for the first time in his life) Peter listened to Jack and decided to act on his advice.



Taking Jack with him he delivered not one, but two enormous boxes of pricey chocs to Barb's prim, neat and tidy house in the village.
A box for Barbara and a box for Barbara's Mum too!!

How would the pricey chocs go down?
Was Jack's advice good?
Should Peter have sent his note with his best attributes?

We switch now to Barbara.
How had she been faring with the meeting with Peter now only a day or two away...

She was beginning to feel excited, exhilarated, even a little nervous all at once.

The Pricey Chocs had been a great surprise. She had expected something much more formal from Peter. A resume, a formula, or perhaps a note from the Chief Constable singing his praises, but no, he had been positively romantic and done something spontaneous which had been greatly appreciated by her, and yes even her Mum too!




In the school library, her best friend Pam was yattering away about all sorts of Secret Seven type matters, but Barbara's mind was many. many miles away....

The next day in school, One Eyed Rex approached Peter (without an appointment) and asked to be considered for membership to The Secret Seven.

George & Jack instantly went into bodyguard mode, but Peter surprisingly brushed them aside, telling Rex that he would give his request his full attention, thanking Rex for bringing the matter up..



"Goodness gracious, Jack!" exclaimed George. "What on earth has got into Peter? He was almost human there, the way he dealt with Rex!"

"Well George," said Jack putting on his best man of the world expression, "Our esteemed leader Peter is feeling the full affects of 'the power of love'!!"....
