As a child I was intrigued by how many caves there were in the books I read, as I'd never found one. I deduced that there must have been a sharp decline in the number of caves over the years, going back to the caveman era when you couldn't go two steps without stumbling into one.

I would not have liked to do that. I felt peculiar watching them go deeper and deeper! I would have been hopeless at adventures.
