There was a lovely stream, just to the right of the house



We got lost today, about twenty miles inland from Aberporth in Ceredigion, Wales.
Down a quiet, quiet lane we stumbled upon this house which I just had to stop and photograph,

It was a delight. My wife was rather unimpressed, saying the windows needed replacing.
But, I'm already imagining drinking the crystal clear water from the stream that runs alongside the right-hand side of the house.

Paddling in its icy depths would cool me on even the hottest day. My newly installed Joan will bake scones, pies and tarts on the sturdy Aga...

Maybe it's just a dream - but I did have an unexpected win on Saturday's lottery this week....

That's a really beautiful house and garden. Thanks for sharing that. As you say, so reminiscent of a house in an Enid Blyton book.
I love houses like that. They always remind me of Enid Blyton. It's the same with Lilliput Lane cottages, or those on designs by Clarice Cliff.

Wow Pete, that is a lovely house and garden, complete with its own crystal clear stream! However, my Enid Blyton dream house is (yes, you guessed it) Mistletoe farm, complete with gurgling pipes and Dorcas in the kitchen!

That's a lovely house Pete.

I'd definitely like to live somewhere like that during the summer months. Not sure I'd be so keen in the winter, unless of course I had a well stocked store cupboard.

Hmmm - it's the sort of property that would feature in my most hated tv programme Escape to the country.

Forget the kids, it would probably be just about big enough for a retired couple and their pampered dog

From an exciting, love to visit for a day, point of view - my favourite Enid Blyton settings are places like Kirrin Castle and Craggy Tops.
In places, then I love the idea of Peterswood. But in terms of 'dream house' that I'd love to live in permanently, then it'd have to be Kirrin Cottage. When I moved to where I now live about 15 years ago I had a house sign made and so finally do, in name anyway, live in 'Kirrin Cottage'.

It's interesting that you've called your house Kirrin Cottage, Bertie. Another forumite has called her house Owl's Dene, and I got talking to a lady at an Enid Blyton Day who had named her house Green Hedges.

I'd need electricity and a water supply to make life easier but I'd make sure that the workers I used for the electricity and water could provide masses of good references from satisfied customers!

AH - the penny has dropped - I can blame Enid Blyton for the loathsome Escape to the country.

I can't think of a single urban adventure, but there are many stories when the family starts in the city and Escape to the country such as Cherry Tree Farm and Red Roofs.

My parents had THAT programme on when I dropped in earlier this week. The people concerned were probably early 50s with a part-time older teenager and no dog. They had a one bedroom flat with a minuscule garden in London which was worth nearly double the average house price where they wanted to go, which was south Suffolk. Her parents lived no more than an hours drive away from the area they were looking at. They wanted to work from home most of the time but have a good rail link to get back to London for work

Their requirements

• 3 or 4 bedrooms, so friends could come and stay

• Out-buildings to turn into home offices

• Annexe so her parents could come for a weekend

I think that Green Meadows would have done them fine!

Viv, did you happen to see where they ended up? It sounds as if something on the outskirts of Ipswich would have ticked all their boxes.

Green Meadows is one Enid Blyton book I've yet to read. I've heard an outline of the story, and keep putting it off as it sounds rather depressing.

Back to my Enid Blyton dream house - well I think I'd settle for Green Hedges.
