Pomes (Poems) Inspired By Ern Goon
“Fatty,” said Ern, “I’ve just seen a dead cat in the pond and I’ve written a pome about it. This is how it goes.” And Ern recited, ‘How sad to see thee, pore dead cat,
in the pond, under the water.
I don’t know why you jumped in there,
but I think you shouldn’t oughter.’
in the pond, under the water.
I don’t know why you jumped in there,
but I think you shouldn’t oughter.’

Brilliant Barnard!
I wonder if Ern could really go against the grain and attempt to finish it!!

Re: Lines you would never hear in Enid Blyton!
I’m happy for you to add extra verses, Pete. Sometimes Ern can only think of one verse before imagination runs out like this pome that I posted a few months ago.
STAYING WITH UNCLE by ERN GOON
When I stay with Uncle, I always get in trouble.
He hits me and he tells me off, I am so mizzerubble.
But later in the evening when I am safe in bed
I dream of saying, “Uncle, kindly goanborlyered.”
Ern described this verse as his ‘masterpeece.”

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Some more verses to Ern’s pome, The Pore Dead Cat Have recently been discovered. I’ll post the original verse and then the new ones.
THE PORE DEAD CAT by ERN GOON
How sad to see thee, pore dead cat,
in the pond, under the water.
I don’t know why you jumped in there,
but I think you shouldn’t oughter.
I dragged the cat out of the pond,
and gave it a little cuddle.
Pond water dripped onto the ground,
and formed a little puddle.
My only thought at that sad time,
was, ‘what a pore wee thing,’
and then I listened very hard.
The cat had started breathing.
It opened up its eyes,
and gave my arm a norful scratch.
I dropped it and it ran away.
I ran and tried to catch
it but my arm was
giving me lots of pain,
and as I watched I saw the cat
jump in the pond again.
I thought, ‘do I care?’
‘No, it can stay there.’
