Authenticity, heritage and limited edition
That’s because, for the very first time, the actual book fronts of the Famous Five novels are being faithfully reproduced on a series of Limited Edition Silver-Plated Ingots.

Hadn't heard of these - are they in the cave? Does anyone have one?

There's one for sale on ebay:

Very intriguing Pete. I too have never heard of them. They would be a lovely thing to own certainly. Perhaps Tony or Anita will have more information.

I hadn't heard of these at all.

OK, I must admit I bought the one on eBay... thanks for the tip-off, Pete. It's going to be a birthday present for my sister later this year, as she loves collecting things related to favourite books and TV shows and so on and she's always been a fan of the Famous Five.

Mind you, as I discovered when it arrived today, this "ingot" is rather smaller than I expected — only about 5 x 4 cm (about 2 x 1.5 inches, if you prefer). But it is beautifully made and quite heavy, so you can tell it's real silver. I would have thought a gold ingot would be much more appropriate for Five on a Treasure Island, but that would probably make it a fair bit more expensive...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Courtenay, It does say that it is silver plated, not solid silver.

Oh that's right, it does too. Well, it's some relatively heavy metal or other substance, then. Anyway, it's beautifully made, just smaller than I ideally would have liked! But I'm sure my sister will be very happy to have it.

Maybe it's lead. After accumulators are more or less based on lithium now and they no longer use it for fuel, they might have found another way to get rid of it ;-).

I would doubt them being lead, Wolfgang, mainly for health and safety reasons.

Strange you can't actually buy them from the Westminster site any more, though. According to the comments at the bottom there are actually 12 designs, though it doesn't say which ones. I'd love a Smuggler's Top one myself!

Here's another site, though:

This seems to show two versions of the Treasure Island ingot.

That's rather strange. As they show two different ones, you can't really be sure which one you are buying. :?
