The Dorset Days Of Enid Blyton - Viv Endecott

Been after this for quite a while now - managed to get it on ebay today for £1.75.
Anyone got it, read it?

No, but I might look out for it! :D I didn't realise Viv herself had written a book on Enid's connections with Dorset. Would be interested to hear what you think of it, Pete.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I haven't read it for a few years but I recall it being informative and interesting.

I bought Viv's book soon after it was available in the shops. I think I got it at the book shop on Station road in Swanage. I read it all on the same day. I couldn't put it down. Each chapter has a great insight into Enids time in Swanage, the places she went to & the people she met along the way, plus some plausible locations that Enid did or may have used in her books. There are some great sections on the Dorset landscape & people, too. It's a great book to add to anyone's Blyton collection. Well worth the money. :D

Thank you Anita and number 6. I wasn't expecting to buy it for such a reasonable price. It must have slipped under the radar after Christmas!

I've had mine for a few years too. It's a nice book, Pete. You'll enjoy it.

You may also like, Old Thatch by Tess Livingsone, which I bought at one of the EB Days. And another great little book is - Tell Me About Enid Blyton by Gillian Baverstock, Enid's daughter. :)

Thanks Julie. I have the Old Thatch book, I really enjoyed it.

I feel guilty buying Viv's book for so little, I thought it would have been bid up to around £10-12 which was my high reserve bid.

I forgot about this particular book, Julie! I have this one, too. I bought it from Viv's Ginger pop shop some years ago. :D

Ooh, that does sound good! :D Unfortunately I can't find any other copies currently going on eBay or anywhere else online, but if anyone hears of a copy at a reasonable price, I'd love to have it. I've visited Swanage a couple of times (aware of the Enid Blyton connections but not really having time to follow them up) and I just loved it, so I must go there again some day.

Yes - I have Viv's book. I can't remember if I bought it in Swanage or at an EB Day - if it was available at that time. It's a very nice book, with some good information and photos. :-)

I've got a copy but I can't remember where I bought it. I enjoyed reading it, at the time I found it very informative.

I have a copy too. I bought it at The Ginger Pop shop in Corfe Castle years ago from Viv herself. She signed it for me too. It's an interesting little book.

I also have a signed copy which I bought from Viv at the 2005 Enid Blyton Day. :D

That's great guys. I may have just received a signed copy myself today??

Here's a scan of the signature along with the forward of the book.
It really is superb, many thanks to Viv for producing it.
I had not seen the photo of Enid displayed on the rear cover either.

Book's forward and possible author's signature:

Mine is signed like that too...but slightly different. I think they were all signed by Viv - but probably Eddie etc had more personally signed messages? Not sure. I wish I could remember where I bought mine! I've just found it after a number of years and might reread it, after the enthusiasm of this post! :-D
