Enid Blyton Story in the Daily Mail

Post by Viv of Ginger Pop »

Split from 'More Flak for Enid'.

Hello everyone

Today the Daily Mail had a pull-out section of the most magical Christmas Stories.

First story? The Christmas Tree Fairy by Enid Blyton.

I haven't read a Blyton for ages, but this will be my bedtime reading tonight :D

Best wishes

Thanks, Viv. Hope you're keeping well. I've just found the story online and it's lovely - and with it is a photo of Enid Blyton that I hadn't seen before. It's heartening to see her work being presented in a serious manner in the press. An excellent find!

Aw, that was a very sweet story — a bit along the lines of the famous "Do you believe in fairies?" scene from Peter Pan, if less dramatic! (I wonder if Enid had been to the pantomime and got the idea from there...) Well done to the Daily Mail for printing an Enid Blyton story without any negative comments whatsoever about her attitudes or writing style or suitability for today's children, too.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

That was lovely, thanks for the link Anita. I hadn't seen that photo of Enid before either. I enjoyed the other stories too especially Horrid Henry.

A lovely story, and I love the illustration too. Takes me back to those nostalgia years of Christmas. :)

Hi Viv,
Good to hear from you.
Thanks for posting the details about the Daily Mail Christmas Treat. An enjoyable read.
In the summer I noticed travel posters at many railway stations featuring the Famous Five travelling by rail. At least there was a train and the Five were on the platform walking away ,suit cases in hand. They looked happy so they must have arrived. I expect they were heading into an adventure.
