Enid Blyton Fan Fiction?

Post by pete9012S »

Does anyone know when the very first Enid Blyton fan fiction appeared? What it was about and was it any good?
I'm not referring to books that that were continuation stories and officially published, but true fan fiction simply written for the love of it.

I suppose the advent of the internet has brought a profusion of Enid Blyton fan fiction, but what was the earliest example that can be traced?

Did anyone for instance write fan fiction whilst Enid was still alive,or perhaps in the years shortly after she passed away?

It seems there are currently around 114 Enid Blyton themed fan fiction stories currently available at

Some of the authors are familiar names to us here......

Hahah! There I am!

As for your other questions Pete, I don't know. I do know that there was a huge surge in the popularity of fanfiction and ever slash fiction when Star Trekk hit the scenes.

And with the growth of the internet fanfiction writers have a platform to share their work and communities to discuss them with. There are four different groups of fanfiction but at this precise moment I can't name them!

Oh and for anyone interested in fanfiction, don't forget to check out Julian's News on the blog! ;)

"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

Fan fiction definitely predates the Internet. Groups would do fan fiction newsletters before they had computers. I'm not sure about Blyton fan fiction - as Stef pointed out Sar Trek was one of the first universes to drive people to write their own stories - mostly pairing Spock and Kirk.

I bet we've all written our own Blyton-y stories as children - do they count?
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I wrote a long Blyton-y story for a school project at the age of 11! :D
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Eddie, that's wonderful. Can you tell us a bit about it and how it was received?
I suppose it's too much to hope for that it still exists?

Regards

I wrote a Fives story when I was about 6 I think. It was based on Five Run Away Together but not a patch on the original!

Thanks for your interest, Pete. :D I was given a grade A for my story, which very loosely followed the style of Enid's Find-Outers books. I was very much influenced by Fatty and co at the age of 11. Sadly, the story along with all my other school work was "lost" many years ago. I really regret that I got rid of things so readily when I was younger. :(

Thanks for the update Eddie.I imagine it must have been a great story. :D

I have kept lots of my school books along with my children's in our cellar.
Sadly, the one book that's missing was my English essay book. We had to hand all our books in at the end of term-why was that I wonder? What happened to all our books after that? Pulped to make new ones perhaps??

I once submitted one of Fatty's poems as my own for some homework.I think it was the 'pore old man with chilblains/arthritis' one??

I expected our young, new, substitute teacher to be bowled over and impressed by it but she just said 'Hmm, a very strange poem that one Peter!'

I'm not so sure that great is the correct adjective, Pete. :D I'm sure I'd cringe if I were able to read the story now.

It's interesting that you have kept lots of your school books along with your children's in your cellar. Chick and I have several boxes of our daughter's and son's school exercise books, and other items they produced as youngsters, in our loft. We wouldn't dream of getting rid of any of it.

That's classic! A bit risky as well...if your teacher had been a Blyton fan!

My brother did a similar thing once at school, he submitted one of my poems as his own!
I used to write a bit of poetry myself just for fun. Some of it sounded quite serious, and he thought one particular poem was worthy!
I can't remember what the outcome was (I must ask him again!). I guess it must have been at least as good as anything he could have done at that time, as he is younger than me.
