Katharine wrote:Sadly Julie, a significant number of dog owners aren't as considerate as you are. I think I've related before that twice I have been picnicing on our local beach only to have it spoilt by dogs. The first time the dog put it's nose into the cool bag where the rest of our food was, the second time the dog and then it's owner ran straight across our picnic blanket. On that occasion, although the owner apologised, she also hinted it was my fault for having a picnic at the time when dogs were regularly exercised.
We have a large white German shepherd and are forced into walking him at 5 a.m. in the morning, because too many careless dog owners walk around not leashing their dogs.

Very sensible Chrissie.
When we had our Alsatian I used to take her for great long walks deep in the woods a few miles from our home, well away from any other people.

Pete, that would be a dream come true for our dog!
Even though the surface of Massachusetts is 70% covered with woods, 95% or more of that wooded area is private property and the few woods/parks that are open to the public, well, there are lots of people who let their dogs run around unleashed.
As Cody has been neutered in 2015, even small dogs tend to attack him and of course he bites back. He's a so-called fear biter (biting the other dog first out of fear to get bitten by the other dog).
So we cannot let him come near any other dogs.

I was getting confused as to where the 'dog' business (excuse the pun) had crept into the latest conversation started today on the previous page. I then found that Chrissie was responding to Katharine's post from eight years ago on page one. :D

I didn't realise that Chrissie - it must be quite frustrating and provide quite a challenge.
I understand now why you get out so early in the day!

Pete, that's not the only reason why I get up so early. As an insomniac with Advanced Sleep Phase disorder I go to bed by 7 p.m. and then am usually awake by 1 or 2 a.m.. That way I catch 6 to 7 hours of sleep.
André gets up shortly before 5 a.m., so we can walk Cody.
