A different sort of rip off merchant here, but I just wonder who on earth would buy this copy of Second Form at St. Clare's for £50 when you can walk into any large book shop and buy it for £4.99. Alternatively if you couldn't be bothered to do that you could get it on Amazon for £3.18. I sometimes wonder if there really are idiots out there who will pay these sorts of prices!

I see that this Ebayer has notched up 42 negative feedback comments within the past 12 months, they make very interesting reading.

Not to mention the 78 neutrals from people with the same issues, but who for some reason didn't want to leave a negative.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I wonder what he'd say if we sent him an email telling him how much this book costs on Amazon or the shops!

I quite like this one tho

"i found my seller bought from someone else and sold on more expensively"

Yes, that is how these things work actually - but really, if these various negs/neutrals are too daft to look around before bidding (especially given that the few I squizzed at are aware of amazon - "from amazon- do not order- g direct to amazon its cheaper!!!" - well, why didn'y you then? )......... caveat emptor & all that.

Similarly, as it's a free listing weekend as I type, there's been a few comedy prices cropping up in my regular searches - I simply ignore them & look elsewhere :)

Although I think it's ridiculous someone asking £50 for a modern book that's available elsewhere, I do think it's down to the buyer to check carefully what it is they are buying. I certainly wouldn't part with that sum of money without being sure I was getting something special. Before I buy from E-Bay I usually check out the sellers feedback, too many negative or neutral comments make me very wary.

US$ 9999.99 for a 1990s paperback of First Term at Malory Towers! Crumbs - I once had several Malory Towers books in the same format and gave them away for free. What a pity I wasn't aware of their value!

And the irony is he is also selling this gem:

Whatever awaits behind closed doors,
Strange noises in the cellar or the sound of creaky floors,
We never let a mystery pass us by,
Just leave a clue and leave the rest to the Famous Five.

Out of interest I've looked at the seller and sorted all his items (all 850,000 of them) by price. He has 214 titles listed at US$ 9999.99. Item 215 is substantially cheaper, though, at US$ 9999.98.

By the time you reach item 360 (A Murder she Wrote novel) the price has dropped to US$ 2778.73.

To get a book for less than $1000, we need to reach item 717, Shogun vol 2, priced at US$ 999.99.

By the time you've reached item 2010, you'd need to spend US$ 511.92 to get a copy of the Runaway Bride soundtrack.

For some reason I can't view any pages after this without getting an advanced search error asking me to enter search terms.

At first I thought it was a mistake, that the seller had forgotten to enter a price or an error had occurred and the price had set itself at $9999.99 but clearly not. The seller is simply insane and has carefully priced several thousand books (of which he only has one copy of) at insane prices.
