Russian Fudge
Russian Fudge
Hello...my first posting here (thanks for the activation Tony ) and I have a request.
In the late 50's and early 60's as children, we used to get for Christmas the 'Enid Blyton' pocket diary which we used to avidly fill in all of the events in our lives throughout the following year.
A feature of these diaries included among other nature topics etc, plus the occasional recipe to make something scrumptious to eat....
I think it was either 1959, 60 or '61 when a recipe for Russian Fudge was included. I remember making this with my brother and it was superb....unfortunately I no longer have my diaries anymore nor the recipe...
Just a long shot....has anyone still got their treasured Enid Blyton diary for the above period and if so could they possibly make me a child again and post the recipe for this delicious fudge?
Kind regards
BrianG (Dorset UK)

Welcome BrianG. I know you'll enjoy.
Anita is our recipe genius, so maybe she can help.
Ps. Tried the Macaroons this weekend. Scrumptilicious.

Welcome to the forums, Brian.
I think you will probably have quite a job finding copies of the Enid Blyton Diaries you mention in your post. They were published by Collins and are now very hard to find. You could try ebay but I suspect, if they do have any for sale, they will be expensive.
Tony did a feature on the diaries on the back page of The Enid Blyton Society Journal Number 25 Winter 2004. You can obtain a copy for £3.71 from Tony. Have a look at the online shop on this website for further details.

Re: Russian Fudge
If you "Google" Russian Fudge you can find several recipes and maybe the one featured in the diary could be among them. They all sound extremely sweet - containing condensed milk, golden syrup, sugar etc. - very tooth destroying but no doubt very delicious!

Welcome, Brian. Help yourself to a toffee or two from the tin in the Cave, to tide you over while you're waiting to taste that Russian Fudge again!
Glad you enjoyed the macaroons, Wayne. Unfortunately I don't have any of the Enid Blyton Diaries. As Eddie said, I believe they're hard to come by these days. But I hope someone here has the diary you remember, Brian, and can post the Russian Fudge recipe.Wayne Pyer wrote:Anita is our recipe genius, so maybe she can help.

Yum!
Oh dear, that's a pity. My mother lives a long way away!Note. - Show your mother this recipe before you make the Fudge, and get her permission. She may like to oversee the proceedings the first time!

Re: Russian Fudge
Well....thank you all for such a warm welcome and to you Tony for posting that recipe.....that is THE one....
Shows how much we were trusted as children in those days to attempt such things in the kitchen..
I know it was VERY sweet and just a tad on the extravagant.....but this is nostalgia.
Thanks once again for such a quick result.......now off to Waitrose for the ingredients.....!
Kind Regards

You never think straight, you see. Something always lurks in your twisted mind.
I wanna know what that twisted piece of information happens to be.
