It's great to hear that you'll be coming, Viv! Hope all is going well with Eileen Soper's Illustrated Worlds.

I too have to pick up my ticket from the box office, and hope to be there by 1.30pm at the latest. Looking forward to seeing the film and meeting up with forumites again! I've also finished re-reading Five Have a Mystery to Solve and felt it was slow to get going, but it's unusual for a film based on a book to stick rigidly to the printed storyline so it'll be interesting to see what adaptations are made. Must admit that, although I'm curious to see what the film is like, it's one of my least-liked Famous Five stories and I wonder why that particular book was chosen?

In the book Wilfrid is something of an enigma, changing character suddenly, and I don't quite know what to make of him. Some elements of the plot and the whole structure of the story are decidedly odd - probably due to the fact that Enid Blyton was suffering from dementia by the time she wrote the final titles in the series.

Full marks to Moonraker! Of all people, I should have been the one to highlight this! My excuse is that I have been on leave for the past week and therefore not read the appropriate S.W.T staff brief. Now I really must dash, I have a fair bit of travelling to do. :D

Enjoy the film everyone, and don't forget those reviews. :D

If the weather is wet and 'orrible after the film, I'd like to suggest we visit The Children's War at the Imperial War Museum. It's a short but awkward journey, and worth a share of a taxi fare. It's free entry, and open to 6pm.

I'll get there as early as I can.

Despite living only 5-10 minutes away from the BFI, one of my biggest weaknesses is getting somewhere at the last minute rather than when I would like to :( I do also have a few things to do beforehand.

I'm sort of tempted to have a look through the book beforehand, but I'm afraid that if I do, I'll be sitting through the film tomorrow tutting away like Moonraker "this isn't in the book!" :D

Actually I have the hard back copy next to me that I bought for the princely sum of 50p in Bourne End library last year 8)

The book is very confusing even before I get to the story! First there's a handwritten Christmas message to someone which was dated 1960 and someone has changed the 6 to a 4 so it reads 1940. A few pages later it says "this edition published 1967"! LOL. But then after that there's a message from Enid saying "here is the 21st adventure of the Famous Five" :?: :!:

Let's hope the rest of the book isn't so confusing should I choose to delve further.....

Well the film was highly enjoyable and absorbing.

The rain has started to come down but we're all raising a glass of Ginger beer and in high spirits in a Riverside Cafe at the Royal Featival Hall. :D

We had a lovely afternoon on the southbank, the film was great fun, often (unintentionally) hilarious, the young actors who played Wilfred and Dick were excellent and the others were very good too, although the ages seemed wrong, Dick was younger than Anne and George made an unconvincing boy.The adult actors were well known faces who had small parts in sixties shows like The Saint and The Avengers.
Many thanks to Norman Wright for arranging the screening.

It was nice to be able to say hello to people I met at the Enid Blyton Days, especially Lin and Viv, didn't get the chance to speak to Anita but it was good to see so many EB Society members there, the theatre seemed reasonably full from where I was sitting.

Any chance of seeing "Five on a Treasure Island" on the big screen next year? If so, I'll definitely be there!

Kate.

Sorry to have missed Kate and Lin, but I found Five Have a Mystery to Solve hugely entertaining (more so than the book!) and it was lovely to meet up with a few fellow forumites for a drink and a chat afterwards. Will write more about the film tomorrow - it was well worth the trip. Hope people got home safely (or get home safely, if they're still on their way).

The best bit was young Wilfred getting a lovely big bucket of water tipped over him by Ann. :D

As an actor, he made a far better Wilfred than the irritating kid in the books (a hideous mixture of St Francis of Assissi and Violet Elizabeth Bott, methinks  )

ps I was very tempted on the way home to use my new contraption to phone someone just to say I'M ON THE TRAIN but didn't even want to touch the thing to do that!
