Enid's ability to see things from a child's point of view shines through in these early verses.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.

I have just been reading a story about a garden party, William the Invisible (from William the Detective, 1935) by Richmal Crompton

William has emerged from a ditch into a garden party, and is anything but invisible
  • "It's the monster!" screamed the girl in the summer-house
"It's our savage!" shouted the three boys
    "It's William" moaned Mrs Brown.
Both authors, in their own way, can show how the world of adults can be incomprehensible to children!
