Children's poems published in Sunny Stories

Post by Aussie Sue »

A lady named Gill Christie has posted a message saying, just before passing her mother had told her she had a poem published in Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories Magazine. I can understand her wanting to see that poem. Her mother's name was Jennifer Thomas.
Surely Enid Blyton fans are just the group to solve this for her.

I can narrow it down a little. Sunny Stories published a child's poem on page 2 of every magazine, from February 1937 to the end of December 1947. The location changed from page 2 to the inside cover in July 1941.

I have a few hundred of these magazines and the only Jennifer who had a poem published in my copies was Jennifer Gaskell.

I will list the magazine no.s of the one's I don't have, to narrow down watch is left to check in hope we can find this poem for Gill.

Magazines I don't have are no.s 4, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 66, 69, 79, 146, 147, 148-166, 168-171, 199-201, 203-210, 212, 213, 216, 253, 258, 269, 273, 278, 280, 284-288, 290. 291, 292, 294, 296-301, 303, 304, 307-309, 311-330, 333-338, 340, 343, 344, 346, 349, 351, 354-356, 358, 360, 361, 365, 367, 370, 371, 373, 383, 393, 400-410,

I do hope someone can find this poem.

Good luck

It's not in nos. 4 or 171.

I don't think it's in no. 309 either unless her name was 'Susan Jennifer Saville'.

According to my spreadsheet, I should also have nos. 169, 170, 373, 383 and 393, although I can't find them at the moment. I'll try and find them later to have a look.

Presumably that was her mother's maiden name.

What a lovely idea Sue!

Just checked:
146, 147,148,150,151,152,153,154,156,157,158,159,165,269,414,

They do not contain a poem by either Jennifer or Jennifer Thomas.

Regards

Pete

Does anyone know if the poem was ever tracked down? I've just found a few more Sunny Stories and have ticked 373, 383 and 393 off the list, plus the ones that Pete and I have previously checked. So I think the above is a list of possible places it was printed.
