Of course after Anita's recent recommendation I had to hunt this story down too!

That's great, Pete! Porridge used to be one of my favourite breakfasts until I suddenly became allergic to oats. I hadn't seen all the Mary K. Lee illustrations before but they're very attractive. Mother looks most glamorous and the crooked buildings and quirky bus are appealing too. I remember Kate Mary mentioning the bus illustration previously as there's an advert on the side of the bus for one of Enid Blyton's books, The Adventures of Pip, which was published in the same year as The Third Holiday Book (1948) and by the same publisher (Sampson Low).
