Tich
Tich
Really sad to hear my old friend Ian "Tich" Amey has passed away. He went to my old school in Salisbury, and was a great local character. Always smartly dressed he was always willing to have a chat with people who recognised him. He played bass in the group Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, who had many hits in the UK and toured in Germany as did many of the 60s groups. We lived next door to his brother, David, for a few years, and he was a regular visitor to our cul-de-sac, reversing his Jaguar alongside our home. In later years he and his wife, Sue, ran a nursing home locally, and I often met him there when I took residents to hospital.

Sorry to hear that, Nigel. Sad news.

Re: Tich
A great band. Before my time, but they had some awesome hits. And they've also got quite a fascinating (and complicated!) history with various line-ups over the years. But Ian Amey, the original Tich was with them until 2014 and you do often see him pop on Youtube videos from different decades.

Here's a couple of archive photos from our local rag:

Re: Tich
Very interesting and sad to hear of Tich's passing.
I only know one song by the original band — Bend It, which of course in its original context is pretty obviously referring to activities of an "adult nature". However, because I first heard it in a classic Aussie TV ad (I would have been 9 or so), this is all I can think of whenever I hear it...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Did I spy a swimming cow in the middle of that ad?

Re: Tich
This is going to sound very random, but I do very vaguely recall a news article from around this time in which they had managed to reunite the original members of the band - except Beaky who they were unable to locate or contact as if he had vanished off the face of the Earth!Moonraker wrote: ↑27 Feb 2024, 13:51

So it's good to see a picture of Beaky and Tich together from 2020!

R.I.P. Tich.
I remember their last hits such as the Legend of Zanadu with it's coboyish whip sounds although the era to me is one of table radios with black & bluey-white small televisions where I saw pop music shows.
