R.I.P Annie Nightingale - BBC R1 DJ

Post by Boatbuilder »

It was so very sad to read of the death of Annie Nightingale aged 83, who was the first BBC R1 female DJ in 1970 and whose career in presenting spanned over 50 years. R.I.P Annie.

Really sorry to hear this - along with Janice Long, these ladies were superb broadcasters from my youth.

I remember back in 1983 rushing along to my best friend's house to tell him we had been invited on a double date with two girls we both admired tremendously.

My friend said he would sadly have to decline the date as he was listening and taping the Annie Nightingale show that particular evening!

Ah yes, the days when you had to stay home to tape a show. No catchup website in those days. Annie Nightingale was a trailblazer. RIP.

Yes, I often received a set of blank tapes as a Christmas or birthday present.

Great story, Pete - a real tribute to Annie Nightingale!
