Yes a good age - 96. I heard that on Channel 5 earlier.

R.I.P Dame Angela Lansbury.

Very sad news — though she was 96, like the Queen, which is definitely what my mum would class as "had a good innings". Mum and Dad were big fans of Murder, She Wrote when I was little, but I mainly knew and delighted in Angela as the prim yet quirky apprentice witch, Miss Price, in one of my favourite childhood films, Bedknobs and Broomsticks! :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I'm genuinely gutted to hear this. I actually cried, which I've never done at any famous person's death. I adored Angela Lansbury, she was my favourite actress and I loved her in everything I saw her in, she was just superb, could sing, dance and act anyone off the screen. Loved her performances in Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Grey, The Harvey Girls, The Court Jester, The Manchurian Candidate (she was absolutely chilling in that) Bedknobs and Broomsticks (my favourite film), Sweeney Todd, Beauty & the Beast and Mrs Santa Claus, but my absolute favourite is Murder She Wrote which I watch an episode of almost every night. I'll watch it a little differently now .

One of the very last of Hollywood's greats, she seemed to have always been there and somehow thought she always would be. Beautiful lady and a wonderfully talented actress, they really don't make 'em like her anymore. Rest In Peace Dame Angela Lansbury, thank you for a lifetime of enjoyment. You will always be JB Fletcher to me.

Not to forget her audition for "Murder she wrote", her role as Miss Marple in "The Mirror crack'd"...

We can't live forever, and most of us have lost loved ones at a much earlier age than 96. Of course it's sad for family and friends when anyone dies at whatever age, but surely it is better to celebrate the life of the person and be grateful that they reached such advanced years.

RIP Angela Lansbury. Like others, I first got to know her from Bedknobs and Broomsticks which I last rewatched a couple of years ago.

RIP Angela Lansbury. I knew her best from Murder She Wrote but she was a fabulous film actress too. She was excellent in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and did a star turn alongside Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii. One of the last from the golden age of Hollywood.

I was very sad to hear the news. Angela Lansbury is one of my favourites. I have all the episodes of Murder She Wrote on DVD and watch them every few years. I was lucky to see her in Blythe Spirit a few years ago (along with Jemima Rooper) and she was fabulous. I even briefly saw her as she came out the stage door afterwards.

I have put the next episode of series 11 of Murder She Wrote on tonight.

Excellent actor, but what a great age. And she was still on the stage in her late 80's too. R.I.P.

RIP Angela Landsbury.
She played her role in "Death on the Nile" alongside Sir Peter Ustinov fantastically!

Good point Nigel. Many, many years ago I was surprised at how young Angela Lansbury actually was back then.
Maybe it was because I had only seen her playing older characters as an actress.

Yes, celebrate the life that has been lived and the great age attained is a lovely sentiment that I like the thought of at these sad times.

Pete, I watched Mutiny (1952) as it has Angela Lansbury in it, aged around 27 and I think that's the youngest I've ever seen her. It was very strange!

Thank you Fiona.

I see others have commented on her ability to play 'older' roles.
For instance, I didn't know that:

'She was only three years older than Lawrence Harvey and was completely believable as his mother.'
