Good choices Pete. I've only just noticed this thread. I'll have to think about it a bit.

A really interesting thread but so difficult to choose! I'll try to come up with an answer at some point but it may take a while!

Great choices John! Rush eh! Did you see the lads without Neal Peart at the Hawkins concert recently?
Very touching.
Take It Back - Superb!!
Marillion's Fantastic Place is a sublime choice John. I expected nothing less from you.
I'm sure you must be able to come up with a good song from the 1930's and 40's - why not ask for help from those 'common' old codgers you knock about with!!!

Re: Your best song from each decade - 1930's to 2020's
It's a great idea for a thread, Pete. But some decades were so incredibly difficult to narrow down to just 1 song - especially 60's-90's for me. Choosing between, for example, The Who's 5.15 and Eagles The Last Resort was so hard. Somehow I was unable to fit in any Who or Bruce Springsteen songs! Also The Cure's 'Pictures of You', which probably has my favourite ever intro to a song, missed out on my selections despite being eligible for two decades - on an album from 1989, but released as a single in 1990. But didn't make either!

Re: Your best song from each decade - 1930's to 2020's
Without doubt, one song per decade was difficult to decide. eg for the 1960s I could have chosen one out of half a dozen song all being as good as each other.
Re: Your best song from each decade - 1930's to 2020's
I couldn't possibly narrow it down to one song, either!

Same here, especially for the 1960s and '70s. In that regard, I am surprised to see that so far only one song from The Beatles has been mentioned.
