Sad to have just read that the actor Dennis Waterman has died this afternoon at his home in Spain, aged 74.

I remember seeing Dennis Waterman in the 1961 BBC adaptation of the William books playing the title character and also featuring in a Children’s Film Foundation production called Go Kart Go.

RIP Dennis, his many TV series, films and stage appearances have been a great source of entertainment for so many.

I'm not personally familiar with Dennis Waterman's work, but he was a household name, and despite being not hugely old when he died, he had a career stretching back decades. The one fact I knew most about him during my school/pre-Internet days was that he was the only celebrity I was aware of who had the same birthday as me!
