Very sad news indeed. Des was a great entertainer. I first became aware of him in March 1958 when he compered the Buddy Holly and Crickets UK Tour. At the end of the tour Buddy presented Des with one of his guitars. How well I remember him in later years being sent up by Morecambe and Wise on their TV shows. He took all their ribbing in the spirit of fun. RIP Des O’Connor.

He always came across as a very nice person on television, and he didn't look his age.
I was going to say that I wasn't familiar with his music - but it suddenly occurred to me that my very first 45 single record was by Des O'Connor! It was Des's cover of Flash Bang Wallop (with June Bronhill singing I Whistle A Happy Tune on the b side) which I got given as a Christmas present at my first school over forty years ago.
And I still have it to this day!

Brother Eddie, I also remember Des O'Conner on the Morcambe And Wise show. Here's a video of them.

Sad to hear that Des O'Conner has passed away. A great all round entertainer, who comes from a time when Comedians didn't have to resort to swearing to get a laugh! I, too, enjoyed his appearances on the Morecambe and Wise shows. Great fun.

I always enjoyed his shows and the ones where he appeared with Morecambe and Wise. He seemed a genuinely nice man.

Yes we a great loss. I heard that he fed Morecambe and Wise the jokes about himself!Eddie Muir wrote:Very sad news indeed. Des was a great entertainer. It may of been the coolest thing to be dismissive of the man but although I wasn't wild about him, probably as much to with age at the time of his peak tv exposure, I always respected the way he entertained people and his show were things that everyone could view together.
