R.I.P Jack Charlton

It was sad to hear of the passing of 'big' Jack Charlton at the age of 85. One of the best centre halves of his era.

R.I.P 'Big Man' Jackie.

I remember Big Jack as the manager who dragged Sheffield Wednesday up from the depths of Division Three to the second division, paving the way for Howard Wilkinson to complete the job and get them back into the top flight. He did a great job with Eire too.

Sad news. Big Jack will always be remembered in Ireland for leading our national team to their greatest heights. A thoroughly nice man too by all accounts. RIP.

RIP Jackie Charlton.

It was a very special birthday for little me in 1972 when my birthday cake was decorated with a picture of a Leeds Utd player kicking a goal.

And - of course - that's what they did that afternoon to win the FA Cup.

Dad had taken me to Elland Road a month or so before the final to see them continue their winning ways so I would have actually seen Jack playing live (though my memories - being only 8 years old - are vague).
