I watched my first Kurt Wallander film just two weeks ago, 'Before the Frost' (Innan Frosten), and I must say I was quite impressed. I truly loved the way the movie was crafted and how the plot unfolded. I'm not a big fan of thriller or action movies, but I would consider this one among the best I've watched in this genre. Although what made it even more enjoyable was the familiar landscape where the story takes place! :D It was a refreshing change because I had recently read 'Faceless Killers' (the first Kurt Wallander book), and I have to admit I wasn't impressed either by the storyline or the main character.

We watched The Woman in Gold last night, it’s on BBC iPlayer. It’s about a woman called Maria Altman and her legal battle to have the famous Klimt painting returned to her family. It had been stolen from them by the Nazis during the war. It has a great cast and was very watchable. One part made me cry. And it’s based on a true story. I recommend it.

I hadn't heard of The Woman in Gold but it sounds good, Susie.

I've watched a couple of horror films in recent weeks - It and The Black Phone. I found both of them deliciously creepy and enjoyed the fact that The Black Phone paid homage to It in various ways.

We took my German friend Ute from Duesseldorf for 3 days to Niagara Falls (Canadian side of the falls) and watched the 1953 film "Niagara" with Marilyn Monroe, Josepg Cotten and Jean Peters. It's from 1953 and very suspenseful. They don't make such movies anymore...

I haven't seen a huge amount of films in the last week but I have managed to re-watch a few that I've enjoyed a number of times before. A couple of Steve Martin comedies - Roxanne and Housesitter. And a couple of John Grisham adaptations - The Firm and Runaway Jury - featuring some of my favourite actors: Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman, John Cusack...

Susie, we watched this documentary on Maria Altman in 2016 with my German friend from Duesseldorf and decided to drive all the way to New York City to the Neue Galerie on 5th Ave which was owned by Estée Lauder's son where we saw the Woman in Gold painting.

Right now I'm watching a French road movie & thriller called "Les passagers" with Jean-Louis Trintignant and Mireille Darc. The baddie is played by Bernard Fresson.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074642/reference/

It's one of my favorite French movies and I'm watching the German-dubbed version (Der Schatten, der uns verfolgte).
Unfortunately it was never released on commercial DVD, but I was lucky and transferred it from VHS onto DVD way back in 2003.

Just re-watched the wonderful, Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin and John Candy.

It's presumably on this month because it's all about them getting back for Thanksgiving. But it's also the fourth Steve Martin comedy I've re-watched this month - having also thoroughly enjoyed re-watches of Roxanne, Housesitter and Father of the Bride. :)

Although I'm not a big John Candy fan I do like Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I probably don't like John Candy as much as I otherwise would purely because of what he puts Steve Martin's character through in this film
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Yeah, John Candy's character must have been a nightmare to get stuck with in those circumstances! I think by the end you're meant to feel sorry for him, but it's hard to do after a films worth of him coming across as such a frustrating person.

Yesterday I watched the film noir "Whispering City" from 1947 on Youtube where it's available fuil length.
I love Québec City and only know of two other movies that have been filmed there, "I Confess" with Monty Clift by Hitch and "Le confessional" with Lothaire Bluteau.

I watched Oppenheimer two weeks ago. Too long movie that required intense concentration, I didn't really enjoyed it.

I watched J.F.K. this week. I remember I missed this film when they initially released on cinema some 30 years ago, in 1992. This one quite good. I enjoyed it a lot. I love to watched the '90s film , especially those where I missed them in old days.
