Have a lovely break - I envy you Hay if its your first visit, do hope you get there - have a fabulous time and if you can tear yourself away from the bookshops recommend a lovely café called THE GRANARY, they have a fabulous log fire and its worth getting there early to bag a table close to it whilst you inspect your latest book acquisitions!
Ooh, sounds good! :D I'm not sure I'll fit Hay in this time, but thanks for the recommendations — there are quite a few places in Wales I have earmarked for future trips when I've got more time to spare...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Excellent indeed. I have made a note of this comment in my diary, Floragord. :D
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

For anyone visiting lovely Dumfries & Galloway, there is the most heavenly bookshop at the very delightful Mill on the Fleet (not to be confused with the Mill on the Floss ) at the village of Gatehouse of Fleet - its on the third floor of the Mill overlooking the rushing river and there's an attractive cafe on the ground floor, with a terrace for pleasant weather, to enjoy a drink and examine your purchases!

Likewise you might enjoy attractive Beltie's in Wigtown, Lucky Star, if you're passing through lovely Dumfries & Galloway! The owner has provided comfortable chairs for browsing, and there's a super cafe behind the shop with a charming garden, weather permitting - and the best plain scones we had all holiday!

Wigtown. That's Scotland's book town isn't it? As Hay-on-Wye is in England. At least it is according to one Shaun Blythell, author of The Diary of a Bookseller based on his life as a proprieter of The Bookshop in Wigtown. Quite an enjoyable read actually.
