Yes indeed, 3-0 is not bad at all, but knowing how unpredictable VfB can be there will be no celebrations until after the second match in Hamburg!!!

I'm predicting a 2-1 win today for Man City - but as an Everton supporter I would settle for a great match with lots of goals and excitement.

If the ref could get home safely that would be a fantastic result too..

Your prediction was spot-on Pete! Would you like to hazard a prediction for the second leg of the VfB (Stuttgart) - HSV (Hamburg) match on Monday???

I trust (and hope) that the 'ref had no problems this evening. We were watching the German cup final between RB Leipzig and Eintract Frankfurt, which Leipzig won 2-0. While the 'ref had no problems, we were shocked to see the amount of pyrotechnics in the stadium and cannot understand how people managed to smuggle them in, as on the various occasions that we attended matches in Stuttgart we were checked/frisked in great detail. On one bitterly cold evening I was wearing a hat and as I was been searched the security person suddenly grabbed my hat and pulled it off my head to ensure that I was not hiding something under it!!! We were very surprised that they would check an elderly woman in such minute detail!!!!

Perhaps they thought it was Fatty in disguise, Monique.

Is Pete now the new Paul the Octopus?? :D I have a feeling my boss at work won't be thrilled, though, as she's a big Man U fan...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Positive update for a shocking incident from last season. For some initial reason that I've forgotten, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for non-league side Bath City and follow them (to an extent) from afar.

Last season, their striker Alex Fletcher suffered an horrific accident early in a game (that was subsequently abandoned) when he smashed head first into a concrete advertising board.

He underwent brain surgery, had parts of his skull removed to ease pressure, and was in a coma for 5 days. As this article states https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65296643
his doctor gave his family little hope in terms of both surviving, or quality of life even if he did.

Amazingly, 9 months on - having suffered from vision issues and having learned to walk again - he's been given the all clear to resume his football career! Whether he'll get back to his previous ability, how he'll cope with battling for headers, etc, remains to be seen. But just such good news that he's recovered enough physically that he can even try to resume his career. :D

I think that’s brilliant news, Bertie.
A testimonial game for him would seem to be a good idea.

What an amazing and wonderful outcome, Bertie.

Let's hope something is now done to improve safety around the perimeter of the playing areas.

This man is 111 years old - the oldest man in the UK. He was born just 20 years after Liverpool FC was formed - the team he supports. He must have witnessed some vast changes in the sport in his lifetime.
