Re: Football
I know what you mean Pete! As a 'fan of the Reds I am a bit worried about their recent form (apart from the game against Bournemouth) and VfB are weak again and despite playing fairly well have not managed to win a single match so far. Still, it is fairly early days yet and I am sure Barnard is delighted with Union (whatever about Hertha!).

Re: Football
Yes, I’m pleased that Union are doing well, even getting a draw with Bayern. I think that Hertha will struggle to win a game.
Amazingly, Hertha have won today.

Re: Football
Yes indeed, they are now on the same number of points as VfB, who are one place ahead of them on goal difference!!!

Re: Football
I'm not sure if I mentioned this elsewhere, but I went to my first ever football match on Boxing Day and we (Ipswich Town) won.
I enjoyed the experience, but not sure I'd go regularly.

Well done on the new experience Katharine. Glad you won.
Pete, Everton are in a shocking state at the moment but I still have a confident feeling that they'll pull enough out of the bag to survive. Lampard's days are surely numbered though.

Pietro and his twin brother Giovanni Everton's new twin brother managers."We make the Everton play the good footballer, yes Mama!"
Do you fancy going for the job ourselves John?
Can you do a half convincing Italian accent, don a false moustache and a wig?
We could joint manage the club for £300K a week for six months, get sacked, be paid off with £2 million pounds.
If we split all that income between us, we'd never have to work again.
Who knows, Everton may even improve and climb a few places higher in the league due to our pseudo joint Italian management style.
Whatever the result, we'd be set for life....

Sounds good to me Pete. Think of all the Blyton books we could buy with Everton's cash.

Re: Football
Oh dear, I made a bad decision.
Ipswich have just gained automatic promotion - several members of my family went to the match today, but when they were booking the tickets, I thought our winning streak would probably have fizzled out by now, so didn't bother to ask for one.
We won 6 - 0, it must have been an amazing game, not just because of the score, but because of the atmostphere!
Oh well, I'm comforting myself with the thought that by not buying a ticket, I didn't deprive a 'proper' fan from going.

And you could spend the time reading a Blyton book I assume .

Re: Football
Unlike Katherine, the way my teams are playing at the moment makes reading a Blyton book instead of watching the matches a very sensible suggestion!

Re: Football
Thankfully, my team seems to have pulled its socks up recently, although it was a pretty close finish to today's match against Spurs, where Spurs equalised in 90+3 minutes and we managed a winner at 90+4 minutes having been 3-0 up in the first 15 minutes of the game.

I wish I'd thought of that option - instead I washed up and did some studying!
I'm sure I could have found a football themed Enid Blyton story somewhere.

Re: Football
Random football observation - Wigan Athletic gave a debut to Sam Tickle yesterday. I already love the fact that he's named Mr Tickle, but it's especially great that he's a goalkeeper. I guess his extra long arms will be a huge help to him.
