Re: Puffin Webcam, Burhou Island
Did you not see it, Chrissie? It's certainly not as big as a nuclear cloud - just a few seconds of a brownish dust cloud rising up a couple of seconds after the puffin circled in the image below disappears. The cloud appears roughly where the 'X' is.Chrissie777 wrote: ↑14 Jun 2021, 17:18 Lovely video, John, but I was waiting in vain for the cloud of earth even though I never took my eyes off the screen.
Did you ever watch this one? It's from the coast of Maine, about 4 or 5 hours north of where we live:

I have a feeling you may have posted that link, or a similar one, some time ago as It looks familiar, Chrissie.

They've all caught a boat to Guernsey, Chrissie. That's why they'd all gone. They have a fish market there on Wednesday, it saves the puffins having to catch their own.

John, one of my favorite quotes (supposedly from Charles Chaplin) is "A Day without Laughter is a Day wasted".
This sure was no wasted day!

Re: Puffin Webcam, Burhou Island
That's sad Chrissie, last night the one's in the burrows right at the front were popping in and out and gathering together, so you could see them up close and you could see them so clearly it felt as though you could touch them. This is the time of year that in the past we have seen big groups gathered together, so its worth starting to look in whenever you get a chance.Chrissie777 wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 12:43 Sue, they are all gone (and I discovered your post 11 minutes after you posted it on EBS).

Re: Puffin Webcam, Burhou Island
I know. It's such a pity.
Just got up, it's 3:25 a.m. at the US East Coast and 8:25 a.m. on Burhou/Channel Islands. A grey and overcast day. No puffin outside it's burrow.
Maybe John Pickup has an idea what they are doing at this time? Sleeping, meditating or working on their grocery lists?

They don't make grocery lists, Chrissie. You maybe don't realise, but puffins can't write. They can't grip the pen between their toes because they've got webbed feet.

Re: Puffin Webcam, Burhou Island
I haven't seen a puffin at all in my last two visits to the webcam so it may be that they have flown back out to sea until next year.

Re: Puffin Webcam, Burhou Island
Thanks Sue. They obviously scuttle down their burrows when I log on to the cameras. I shouldn't think it will be too long before they depart.
I've just looked again and there are at least a dozen ambling around.

That explains why I haven't seen any lately, John.
