It's so difficult to choose just 3 authors out of my nice long list, but I'll will just as well try :

1. Enid Blyton
2. Emilio Salgari
3. Gabriel Garcia Márquez.

May I add one more?
Jane Austen :D

Recently found this Thread, via a forum search, very difficult to choose your top three favourite Authors, but Enid Blyton and Arthur Conan Doyle, would definitely be in my top three.

I can remember reading The Hound of the Baskervilles (the first Conan Doyle Holmes story I ever read), at school, and that was just after I had seen the 1939 film version (starring Basil Rathbone) of The Hound of the Baskervilles, on TV.

I had to go all the way through eight pages to check whether or not I had picked my 3 in the past. It turns out that I have not! So now I'm thinking very hard.

Enid Blyton
J K Rowling
Charlaine Harris

Three isn't really enough as I'd like to include Roald Dahl and possibly Sophie Kinsella.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

My three favourite authors of children's books are:

Enid Blyton
Charles Hamilton
Richmal Crompton

To include authors of adult books makes it too difficult!

This hasn't been posted on for 6 years but I came across it while reading some old threads and just wanted to add my top 3.

My top 2 - PG Wodehouse and Enid Blyton - has remained the same for years and are well ahead of the others. The rest have changed a lot in recent years. I used to read a lot of books by the likes of Dickens, Steinbeck, Henry James, etc. But over the last decade I've found them a bit too sombre / heavy going, and prefer to go to more light hearted reading by the likes of Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain. So I'd currently go with...

1. PG Wodehouse
2. Enid Blyton
----------------------
3. Mark Twain

Can't believe this has changed so much for me in just 5 years!

What definitely remains though is my inability to make an actual choice, is it really possible to narrow down my favorite writers to only 3?

But I guess I can always try:

1) Fyodor Dostoevsky
2) Alexander Dumas
3) Enid Blyton

:D

But no, this is impossible because how can I possibly leave out Thomas Hardy, Anthony Trollope, Lev Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Turgenev, Miguel de Unamuno, F Scott Fitzgerald, Edith Wharton, Agatha Christie, Benito Pérez Galdós, Hjalmar Soderberg, Henry James, Oscar Wilde, Roald Dahl, Gustave Flaubert, Herman Hesse, Javier Marías, Tove Jansson, the Brontë Sisters, Arthur Conan Doyle, Miguel de Cervantes and so so many others?

It has to be Enid Blyton for the top author

My other two are adult authors,

Erica James

Milly Johnson.
