Aww, thanks everyone (including Freddie and Suki)! :D :D :D

I'm definitely not in lockdown at the moment — I'm on holiday in Cornwall! In a self-catering apartment, that is, and using my own car, so absolutely no unnecessary contact with anyone. The weather's lovely (incredible for April, actually) and I'm having a really peaceful time. Just been to my favourite National Trust garden, Glendurgan, where there are beautiful rhododendrons and wildflowers in bloom, and sat for a while on the little beach on the Helford estuary by the hamlet of Durgan, watching people going boating. I'm here until Friday and then don't start work again till Monday, so I'm making the most of it! (And I've been in touch with my family in Australia, too.)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Courtenay, if you are at the Helford River, you are not far from Frenchman's Creek (Daphne DuMaurier).
I spent 2 weeks in a self-catered cottage in the woods on the opposite side of Frenchman's Creek in May 1987 and loved it! 8)

Haven't read any Daphne Du Maurier, but I agree, it's such a beautiful area! I'm in Falmouth, only a short drive from the Helford.

Try to explore Fowey. It's lovely.

I'm pretty sure I've been to Fowey, but I may be mixing it up with Mevagissey and/or Looe!

Out of all the towns I know in Cornwall, though, Falmouth is my favourite. I've been visiting National Trust gardens and going for walks along the beach and just having a nice quiet break — much needed. Thanks everyone for all the good birthday wishes! :D

Thanks all — I did have a lovely birthday and a wonderful time in Cornwall! :D (Although I didn't encounter any wreckers, pantomime horses, or giant farmers saying "ah, ooh, ock".)
