If I lived there I'd start a business selling ice-cream cornets in Castle Cornet!

And I would be your first customer, Anita! If you visit Guernsey take the two Chalet School books set on the island and go to the Priaulx Library to read forgotten children's books also set on the island and Herm.

And don't forget it's only 23 miles from Burhou, where the puffins live. :wink:

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

The library sounds great, Francis! That would be a must-see if I ever went to Guernsey.

Children's books set on Herm? Do you know any titles in particular, Francis? :o

Hello Chrissie and everyone! We have returned from Guernsey (wish I was still there!). The children's book set on Herm is 'High Tide Island'. There are also two of the Chalet School series located on Guernsey (escaping from the Nazis in Austria) only to have to escape the Germans when they occupied the Channel Islands.

The two Chalet School stories were:
The Chalet School in Exile (1940)
The Chalet School Goes to It (1941).

How Enid would have loved it in these wonderful islands - just imagine what wonderful stories they might have inspired!

Sorry, Chrissie, I was getting mixed up. 'High Tide Island' is set on Lihou on the west of Guernsey.

Francis, it must be this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 ... oks&sr=1-9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I added it to my amazon.co.uk basket for next year.
Thanks for the tip!
Herm is my favorite place in Europe...

Francis, I'm curious. Did you make it to Herm for a day trip?

Three weeks in Guernsey and we didn't visit Herm or Sark or Lihou I am ashamed to say. We meant to but put it off to near the end which was fatal! Still, next year.............
