Courtenay, try it. It works for me (well, sometimes).Courtenay wrote:Wish I did! I ought to read more Blyton just before bedtime.

I agree with Chrissie. You should try to read more Blyton before bedtime or any other time if possible, Courtenay.

Francis is right, there's nothing better than a compelling EB book to fall asleep and have suspenseful dreams.

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
I really recommend Bedtime Blyton. The only thing is that when Anne starts yawning so do I! The Famous Five always fall to sleep so quickly and I find I do the same as if I am camping out with them and breathing all that fresh air. There really was a lot more fresh air in the 1950s at least during the day when coal fires were not going strong.

Yes they are suspenseful but somehow safely so. Far removed from modern hatreds and wars and politicians.Chrissie777 wrote:Francis is right, there's nothing better than a compelling EB book to fall asleep and have suspenseful dreams.Francis wrote:Thank you Sixret - it' is great to be back and rereading Five go Off to Camp as well!sixret wrote:Great to see you again, Francis.

I agree, the FF books divert from the strange world we live in.Francis wrote:Yes they are suspenseful but somehow safely so. Far removed from modern hatreds and wars and politicians.

Now it's gone. Feels so much better.
Francis, what will you read next when you'll be done with "Five go off to Camp"?
I will read "Valley of Adventure" and then "Sea".

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Two of my favourites, Chrissie. I think this weekend I'm going to re-read The Boy Next Door, as Julie's sequel to it is now on as the weekly serial and I'm looking forward very much to the next chapter, but it's a while since I read the original and I could do with a refresher!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Courtenay, I also plan to reread "The Boy next Door" and then Julie's continuation story once it will be complete in a few months. Looking forward to it!

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Well, I'll begin the original today, since I have the weekend free, and I should think I'll finish it in time to read part 2 of Julie's new story. It's nice to have a day off with not much to do other than read and enjoy!!

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
I read The Island of Adventure just before I went to sleep last night. I dreamt about the TV show Firends, trying to catch a train home from somewhere strange, and Keith Chegwin! Still trying to work out the connection between all those.Chrissie777 wrote:Francis is right, there's nothing better than a compelling EB book to fall asleep and have suspenseful dreams.
