It’s good to know that your boiler is working again, Tony.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Good to hear you are slowly thawing out Tony. I was worried you'd have to start burning some of your books to keep warm.

Glad to hear that both Tony and Nigel have had their respective problems dealt with - and, so cheaply. Plumbers up here in Lincolnshire, take note.

I'm having visions of the Cave of Books going up in flames... Seriously, Tony, so glad to hear the plumber got to you at last and was so helpful and you're warming up now.Katharine wrote:Good to hear you are slowly thawing out Tony. It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I'm sure the advice is to NOT brush right after eating sugary foods. Sugar softens the tooth enamel and brushing too soon brushes it away!Chrissie777 wrote:
I absolutely love chocolate (it's my favorite food) and blame the state of my teeth on the chocolate even though I ALWAYS brush my teeth right after having eaten chocolate. .

I've heard that too Fiona, also after eating acidic foods like apples or drinking fizzy drinks. Although I do think there's a certain amount of luck involved when it comes to teeth as well.

Hi Katharine and Fiona, I've only heard that about enzyms in kiwis, tangerines etc. The enzyms attack the enamel.Fiona1986 wrote:I'm sure the advice is to NOT brush right after eating sugary foods. Sugar softens the tooth enamel and brushing too soon brushes it away!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/258562.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Eating and drinking foods containing sugar and acids naturally weakens the enamel on your teeth. Brushing straight afterwards can cause tiny particles of enamel to be brushed away. It is best not to brush your teeth until at least one hour after eating.
Though at least one toothpaste manufacturer advises you brush straight after every snack to prevent the sugar having time to soften the enamel... but then they would say that to get you to use more of their product! After eating food containing sugars, acid is created in the mouth. This acid attacks the enamel on the teeth and leaves them vulnerable to decay.
"One of the worst things you can do is brush your teeth after eating sugar," Ms Schenker said.
"If you brush your teeth within the half hour after eating sugar it doesn't give your mouth time to get back to an alkaline level, so you're prolonging the time that your teeth are exposed to an acidic environment."

The trouble is that medical advice often changes. For years we have been told that salt is bad for us as it causes high blood pressure, now it has been changed to sugar! Then there is all the confusion about 'good' and 'bad' fats.Chrissie777 wrote:Hi Katharine and Fiona, I've only heard that about enzyms in kiwis, tangerines etc. The enzyms attack the enamel.Fiona1986 wrote:I'm sure the advice is to NOT brush right after eating sugary foods. Like being told not to eat more than 2 eggs a week - and now being told we can eat as many eggs as we like...or being told that apples clean your teeth...then being told they are actually full of sugar etc etc. I can remember being told in the 1980's that you should brush your teeth in an up and down motion - but more recently I've been told its now better to brush them in a back and forth motion.
