Right, here are a few tea-related things I didn't know, as presented by a tea expert in this excerpt from BBC Radio 2's breakfast show last month... I had never stopped to think about the shape and material of a teapot before (I'm afraid I'm a straight-from-the-kettle-into-the-cup pourer, even with leaf tea  ) and I'd never heard of cold brewing!!

In other news, to my horror, my local Sainsbury's has stopped stocking my favourite posh flavour, Twinings China Rose, and I don't know anywhere else that sells it... It's still available online, but that would mean paying postage and it's not cheap tea in the first place. Although I did just find an offer from Amazon with 4 boxes of it for £9.15 (a saving of 81p off the retail price, which isn't huge, but it's still a discount) and their usual free delivery for any order over £20. Maybe next time I want to buy some books from Amazon and need a bit extra to take it over the £20 for free delivery... :D

Sorry to hear about your tea bags Courtenay. Our local Sainsburys seems to be going a bit down the pan - could it be because of the merger?

A friend recently made me a cup of tea with a tea bag - see below - I said I liked it very much so she gave me two more tea bags to take home for my wife and I to try together.
Perhaps a bit pricey for our tastes - although very nice!

Very pretty, but I assume the resulting tea doesn't taste like goldfish.

How would you know? Unless of course you have actually tasted goldfish

It tasted very delicate, light and refreshing. For the cost of three of these tea bags I could buy a decent malt or perhaps a very good carrot cake and have change! :D

Right now, I am obsessed with Persian chai. It's the best type of tea ever!! Love it so much that I just can't stop drinking it. Haha

Is that made with tealeaves and spices to brew up in a pot, Machupicchu, or ready in a teabag? I see Twinings have a new chai out, loose tea in pyramids, but haven't got round to trying it so far!

I was about to say I loved Persian chai when I realised I had posted that ages ago lol

It's in a teabag already...
And it's the most delicious kind of tea I have ever tasted. Can't wait to go to Iran where people always offer and invite you to drink chai with them.

I'm a bit confused about the 'loose tea in pyramids' reference...surely if its in a pyramid, its not 'loose tea'...? Or have I misinterpreted what was written? :?

Thought I'd revive the tea thread (well, a cup of tea is most reviving!) to mention some teabags I've just discovered - Yorkshire Tea Malty Biscuit Brew. They make a comforting brew with the taste and fragrance (very pleasant and not too overpowering) of malted milk biscuits. Just the job on a cold winter's day, and I know my daughter will like them too.

Hmmm, since saying on this thread a few years ago that I don't touch the stuff because of all the fiddling around with teabags, I now have two cups of Twinings Green Tea a day for health reasons. Apparently green tea helps to slow the advancement of cataracts.

Quite nice as well. And despite what I said before, I haven't yet scalded my fingers!

Somehow, we have three large boxes on the go at the moment, co-op99, PG Tips and Yorkshire Tea.

The water used to make tea makes such a difference don't you agree?

Our tap water is awful. Our filtered water is better. When we go on holiday to mid Wales the normal tap water makes a sublime cupp!

Ah yes - my mum and her husband are in North Wales (a short walk from Gwrych Castle, as it happens!) and their water is lovely and soft. I live in a hard water area here in Wiltshire, as I did in Essex, but luckily I don't mind tea made with hard water.
