Re: Downton Abbey!
Lady Mary does have a sort of monotone voice, Petermax, must agree with you there. There is no feeling in her voice at all, but that's probably the way the character was written, who knows!
I loved the first series and the second series too during the Second World War.

A senior moment, Anita. I meant to say First World War!

You're a bit young to be having a "senior moment", Julie. You have to be really old for that - like Eddie!

You've started my day with a smile, Anita. You rascal!

No, you're not alone. A pretty dreadful actress, unless it's a double bluff and she acting to be terrible!Petermax wrote: Am I alone in finding Lady Mary to be utterly dreary? That monotone voice....

You mean she's acting, don't you Nigel! You missed the 's' off!
I still look forward to Downton, but can't help feeling that this series probably won't be one of the better ones!

Re: Downton Abbey!
Anita, you're right, I can't think of Lady Mary as anything other than Lady Mary while the other Downton ladies are just "Edith" and "Sybil" to me. She delivers a very wooden performance but I think that was the way the character was written.
I do love the Downton costumes, though! There is one particular dress that Lady Mary wears, a white blouse with a high waisted navy blue skirt, in the last episode of season 2. It's a very timeless dress, and I'm planning on making that soon!

I hope you'll put up a picture once you've made it, Ming. Would love to see it.

A very elegant outfit. I'd love to see a photo too, Ming, once you've made it.

Re: Downton Abbey!
For once I have to disagree with Nigel as I quite fancy Lady Mary...I think under that cut glass accent and aloof icy exterior she'd be rather a bit of a goer once she'd let herself go and had a bit of a giggle...

Oh, Pete, I never meant to imply she wouldn't rock my boat - far from it!
And thanks, Julie, for correcting my error!

Re: Downton Abbey!
Very good, Pete. I was about to say that you can probably win Lady Mary over with your northern charm, but looks like Nigel has jumped in now!
