If you and Abi want to chat, Icey, why don't you just PM each other, or get each others email address and chat away then to your little hearts content.

What's the point in having a private-message conversation if you're going to then tell us all about it here?
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Re: General Natter Room
Well as I'm not currently PMing anyone; Topic Change.
I handed in my last piece of uni work yesterday, my 10,000 word dissertation. I have one exam on Thursday than I have offically finished my undergraduate education.
Now thats scary! There is a thread on here that I made the night before I went off to university I think, three years ago. Maybe I'll bump that up and round it off on Thursday.
But I was just wondering what everyone else's next step was when they left university? If you went, or school?
I need some inspiration I think! I'm currently considering PR as a career, but I also want to do my masters in Sociology of Religion at Aberdeen. However, need a year out first to work and get some funds behind me to fund my masters! And of course it depends largely on what level of degree I come out with at the end of my undergrad. Touch wood I'm on course for a 2.1, but then I'm never very optimistic. I suspect it'll be more like a 2.2.

"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

All my friends went to university and became teachers. I thought the revolution
was just around the corner (it was 1968) so I became a computer programmer on mainframe
machines to while away the time. I am now a retired computer programmer and
am still awaiting the revolution.

Re: General Natter Room
I had a look on Friends Reunited a few years ago and discovered that one
of my ex schoolmates was now an Ofsted Inspector. I reminded him how
we were part of a group that occupied the headmaster's study in 1968 out
of sympathy with the Paris Student rebellion of May of that year. He didn't reply!

Re: General Natter Room
I didn't go to Uni. In my day, you left school at 15, in the fourth year. But I opted to stay on for another year in the 5th, and took exams in English, Maths, Typing, shorthand and book-keeping! I remember I took my last exam R.S.A Engish, on the Monday which was also my last day at school and the following day, Tuesday, I started work in a solicitors office! In those days you could also leave work on a Friday and start a new job on a Monday. You only had to give in a weeks notice and jobs were in plentiful. A bit different to the job situation these days!!!Pippa-Stef wrote: But I was just wondering what everyone else's next step was when they left university? If you went, or school?

Re: General Natter Room
Good luck, hope all your hard work pays off.
I left school at 16 after taking O Levels and CSEs. My last exam was mid June and I was able to enjoy the summer holidays as I knew at at the end of them I had a place on the YTS at a large local Insurance Brokers. I was only the grand sum of £25 a week and that seemed like a fortune to me. I can't remember my official job title, but basically it was an office junior. Lots of typing, answering phones, filing, fetching the Director's coffee etc. I absolutely loved it, I couldn't wait to leave school and I couldn't believe I was being paid for doing something I loved. I stayed there until I went on maternity leave. I think I only managed to progress one grade up the career ladder in the 11 years I was there, but I have no regrets. I've never been particularly ambitious.
I've always considered myself extremely lucky to have got the job as I think the unemployement figure was about 3.1 million back then.
I'm finding it much harder to get back into the world of work now though.
