The music was played by an orchestra in the ballet Beauty and The Beast which I saw performed yesterday.

The song was a favourite of mine - I remember listening to it on the radio as a youngster and being disappointed that it didn't reach no. 1

It was also used as the theme song in the film Babe back in, I think, 1995! But the tune itself originally comes from the "Organ Symphony" by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens (of "Carnival of the Animals" and "Danse Macabre" fame). The original version gets played on Classic FM a lot, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be nearly as well known today if it wasn't for the pop song version.

Edit: And having just read your other post about the ballet, Katharine, I can add that "the theme from Jonathan Creek", which you said was also used, is in fact "Danse Macabre"!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I've always liked 'If I Had Words' too - it's so uplifting. :D

I love a few different versions of the Randy Newman song, Feels Like Home. This one is by Linda Ronstadt...

At my age, it's not often I come across a Christmas Carol that I haven't heard before, but today at Christmas Mass we sang this:-

I absolutely love it, and hope it's something we'll sing again in the future.

Just re-watching Forrest Gump - not my favourite Tom Hanks film by any stretch, but he makes most films well worth watching. And the soundtrack includes some real quality songs, including...

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son

I like that song too, IceMaiden.
