Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Just preparing to head off to a secret location where I'll be studying/watching Nocturnal wildlife. I'll be spending the night in a tree-hide..20 feet up! I've slept in hides before, but never in one off the ground! I can't wait. Quite excited. It's like being a kid again! The study is for my local Wildlife group & will mostly focus on Badgers this evening.

Sounds exciting Number 6. And very Blytonian indeed. Enjoy it.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

No, I couldn't find any Enid Blyton book in this bookshop , which was a shame. Enid Blyton is not very popular in the USA, is she?Francis wrote:Do they have any Enid Blyton books?Machupicchu14 wrote:Right now I am in a bookstore in North Carolina, USA.

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
I was lucky to go to Mackentyre's (I don't know if I'm spelling it right, it is located in Ferrington's village), one of the best independent bookshops in the region. It has a very wide range of books and they have a nice tradition of attaching the owner's and the worker's opinions and reviews next to the books they've read. There were a lot of American classics, but no Enid Blyton books!Chrissie777 wrote:Is it a regular Barnes & Noble or are you lucky enough to have caught one of the very few independent bookstores?Machupicchu14 wrote:Right now I am in a bookstore in North Carolina, USA.

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Update: Wildlife study.
Fabulous time was had yesterday evening. I arrived around 7pm & quickly climbed the ladder up to the hide some 20 feet above me. I entered a small room via a trapdoor, feeling so excited by the thought of spending a night in this lonely location. Within 20 mins, a lone Badger emerged from the Badger Sett situated on a banking in front, a just below, the hide. This was followed by a cub a few moments later. Then there was a rush of bodies as more Badgers emerged eager to be off foraging. They quickly began scoffing the peanuts I had scattered earlier, before dispersing to pastures further afield. A lone Fox came slinking past the Sett, pausing to gobble up any peanuts missed by the Badgers. As darkness fell, Deer were seen making their way along the top of the banking, silhouetted against the last of the light. An occasional Bat fluttered by, then all went quiet. I decided to get my little stove out & put the kettle on for a brew. I sipped tea for a while, listening to the wind gently blowing through the trees. At Midnight, I slipped into my sleeping bag & snuggled down for the night. Suddenly an Owl hooted from a tree to my right, quickly receiving a reply from another some way off. I immediately thought of being in the grounds of Owls Dene in the dead of night! I listened to their chi-chat for a while longer, before rain arrived & rattled the roof & drowned out the sounds of the night. I lay there snug & warm in my sleeping bag thinking I'll listen for the Owls again, but the pitter-patter of the rain on the roof quickly led me into the land of nod!

What a great description! Sounds like a wonderful experience! And very cosy too with the rain on the roof!
