I hadn't heard of Kabaddi before, Sunskriti, so I just read about it on Wiki and watched part of this match on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZrxOH2ZxBk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It looks fun - rather like a more complex version of a playground game in this country which we call "Tip", "Tag" or "Tig". According to Wikipedia:
The teams take turns sending a "raider" into the other half. To win a point, the raider must take a breath, run into the opposing half, tag one or more members of the opposite team, then return to his home half before inhaling again. The raider will chant "kabaddi, kabaddi" with his exhaling breath to show the referee he has not inhaled. The raider will be declared "out" and will not gain the point if he inhales before returning to his side, or returns without touching an opponent. The tagged defender(s) will be "out" if they do not succeed in catching the raider who tagged them. Wrestling the raider to the ground can prevent him escaping before he needs to inhale.
What I'm wondering is how anyone can hear the raider chanting "Kabaddi," as there's a lot of background noise! Also, if I try to say "Kabaddi" continuously I find it a real tongue-twister! :lol:

If you're not careful it might come out as "abbledy, abbledy, abbledy"! :wink:

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

:lol:

My son and I have just been experimenting with trying to say it fast. Sometimes it came out sounding like "Cuppa tea"!

Yes, it's a fun game, both to watch and play. I find it easier to say kabaddi over and over again than you do, because I speak some Marathi sometimes. I actually find it quite funny to imagine kabaddi said in a British accent! :lol: If any of you ever get the chance to watch it on TV, then I really hope you'll watch a match to see if you like it. Having said that, I'm going to watch a League match live on Saturday. The local team, the Puneri Paltan, is up against the defending champions, UMumba, (The Mumbai team) and it promises to be one hell of a match! On the same day, in the same ticket, I'm also gonna watch a match between Telegu Titans, (my favorite team, they have one seriously hot player) and Jaipur (the inaugural champions). It all promises to be one amazing weekend, especially as the next day I'm going trekking! :D

Enjoy the match and the trek, Sunskriti! :D If I ever meet you in person, you'll have to teach me how to pronounce "Kabaddi" correctly!

Quite right too, Nigel. Kabaddi does look more like a game for the under 60s! :P

I intend to come to the UK as soon as I can do so myself, simply because I loved the country when I came in 2012. And of course, if there ever is a Day again, I'll be there! Then we'll see about the pronounciation. :D

Darell, I was imagining how funny " Kabadi" sounds in British Accent. :lol: And if its said over and over again, it would be really hilarious.

Exactly my point. By the way, as you would have understood if you had read the songs thread, my name is Sunskriti and I prefer being called that rather than Darell or Darrell. Just like you prefer Zainab over Zaidi. :D

I've been looking at an advert for a smart phone. It can be immersed into 3 feet of water, but is not dust proof- better get myself a cleaner! Or keep looking...

Can't help feeling that helping the police is not without risk. Now they put, on several web sites, film of the man that helped them and an appeal for his contact details. Serious deterent I think.

Which begs the question, why choose a username that you don't like? :?
