Sandy has just had the splint replaced on her leg - thought you might like to see these photos that Dad sent me.

That's a nice-looking splint! I hope Sandy will soon be better.

Just stumbled across this on the BBC website - I've heard of dogs eating bizarre things, but this takes the cake!

Re: Pets
Merged with the "Pets" thread.
After 2 months I cannot remember anymore in which thread I mentioned that we'll get a puppy in December, a white German shepherd dog aka Berger Blanc Suisse. Julie was one of the members interested, so hopefully she'll read this. I thought it might have been in "General Natter" though.

Our Cody was born 2 days ago on Sunday morning. His mom Diamond had a litter of 4 girls and 4 boys and as we don't want an alpha male (rather a low key beta male), I hope not all of the 4 boys will be alpha males. But I have no experience with alpha or beta males. Maybe somebody does?
Pick Your Puppy weekend is on Friday 11/28, that's Thanksgiving Friday. The breeder lives in Connecticut, 90 minutes from us. We have the first pick and he promised to match us with the right beta male puppy. So hopefully the worst of the Thanksgiving traffic will be over by then. Usually the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Sunday are the really bad traffic jam days on the highways in New England.
On 12/13 we will bring him home.
Today we had parts of our garden fenced in, so he has plenty of room to run around .
Those who have Facebook can see the first puppy pics in asjwhiteshepherd. Or you could send me a friend request via PM on EBS and then see it on my FB page.

How lovely, Chrissie. I hope you'll pop up a picture of the little chap when he comes to live with you.

What lovely news, Chrissie! I bet you're excited. And how nice that you'll be getting him just in time for Christmas!

Thank you Anita, Sixret, Eddie, Poppy and Julie .Julie2owlsdene wrote:How lovely, Chrissie. I hope you'll pop up a picture of the little chap when he comes to live with you.
On 11/28 is Pick Your Puppy weekend in Connecticut at the breeder and we'll try to take some pics with André's cell phone without a flash light. I'll leave it to my technically skilled husband to post the pics in here .
On 12/12 we'll bring him home.
We are both very excited .

No way this could happen to our dog - bedroom and bathroom will be off limits for him. I heard about large dogs who swalled remote controls and cell phones.Courtenay wrote:Just stumbled across this on the BBC website - I've heard of dogs eating bizarre things, but this takes the cake!

Re: Pets
Hi sixret, we'll call him Cody for sentimental reasons.
When I immigrated to the US 12 1/2 years ago (this was long before I met André), I had to tame a wild husky for several months until he accepted me and stopped trying to bite me. His breeder was a Native American who gave him the name Cody (which is also the name of a Native American actor, Iron Eyes Cody, who appeared in many western from the 1950's).
I always loved that name and never forgot Cody who by now must be at least 13 years old if he's still alive.
So that's why our white German shepherd puppy will get the name Cody.
Do you like it?
One of the many "how to raise a German shepherd puppy" books that we read since August recommended to give the dog a name with one or two syllables. Also I learned in those books that you never should combine scolding the dog with his name or he'll believe that "Cody" is a bad thing and ultimately won't like his name. So all we are allowed to do is telling him with a firm "no" not to do something, before it'll turn into a bad habit.
