Many thanks once again Keith. It is wonderful to see the site back up and running. It has indeed felt like more than four days.

Thanks very much for keeping in contact with HostGator about the problems, Keith. Delighted that we're back online!

Re: The Halloween Horror Strikes Again
It's good to be back again. I was having Cave withdrawal symptoms. But the gremlins are not defeated yet, all the further illustrations links have disappeared from the book listings in the Cave. Hope it can be fixed.

I don't think that this is a gremlin as Keith told me he was going to close them for the moment. I hope it is only a temporary measure as if not it will mean that several hundred hours of my work will go up in smoke!!

Re: The Halloween Horror Strikes Again
Oh, we're back - finally! I was on the verge of emailing Tony to ask if there was any progress in fixing the problem; I was almost starting to wonder if we'd ever be up and running again. Yes, let's hope the server has been thoroughly de-spammified now!
Many thanks to Keith for all his work, and Tony, I too hope all your illustration collections in the Cave will be preserved.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Thanks for your reply Tony. I too hope the loss of the illustrations is only temporary. They are the glory of the Cave.

Yes - many thanks to all. I too was beginning to wonder whether this was the beginning of the end of the site. (unthinkable I know). As far as Chinese is concerned I prefer ' sweet and sour' - not just ' sour'. What can be done to block a problem Chinese address without blocking all Chinese sites? Are there any legitimate Chinese visitors (not necessarily society members)?

Re: The Halloween Horror Strikes Again
Great to see the EBS Forums up and running again....many thanks, Keith.
One wonders why this website, which is no threat to China's security, (and has probably never outraged official feelings in that country), was targeted. And if it was just practice, what exactly was it practice for?

Re: The Halloween Horror Strikes Again
I think there's some confusion here, Aurelian. It wasn't the EBS site as such which was attacked but Hostgator, which hosts it. It's probably nothing to do with the Chinese authorities, more likely a rogue Chinese business. The idea of spam is to get to as many places as possible, so attacking a host is likely to spread it to all its client sites.
