I agree that it's interesting to compare all the different styles of cover art, Pete and John. Of the covers shown in the article, my favourite is the one by Dorothy Brook for The Adventurous Four as I like the composition, clean lines and soft yellow background.

Those early Armada covers were beautifully drawn. The use of bright colours meant they leapt off the shelf in the bookshop. Mary Gernat, Peter Archer, Charles Stewart and Dorothy Brook were very underrated artists and their work ensured the Arnada series were so popular.

I too love the Armada covers. I used to spend ages in our local bookshop looking at them and choosing which I would buy next. I had quite a lot as a child although sadly only a handful have survived. I've bought quite a few over the years from ebay and second hand bookshops. The Adventure series covers were some of my very favourites, as you can see from my choice of avatar here. :D
