Noddy on The Roadshow

Post by Moonraker »

Did any of you see the Noddy illustrations on last night's Antiques Roadshow? Click on the LINK and it comes on at 37mins 26 secs into the programme. Incidentally, at the beginning of the programme, the venue, Layer Marney Tower, in Essex looks remarkably similar to Malory Towers!

Yes, I saw this, and thought what a nice little collection, even though I'd not a Noddy fan. They were a nice set to own. :)

Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.
"See that? It's the black Bentley again. KMF 102!"

These were sold as lot 199 in the first Noddy auction at Sotheby's in 1997. They are all taken from The New Big Noddy Book (No. 5) and were probably illustrated by Peter Wienk who was responsible for most of the Big Noddy Books after Beek's death. According to the sale catalogue there were 12 separate pages of illustrations, but the three sheets that they had up on the easel belonged to a six-page story, three pages of which were missing - 'A Bag of Mixed Spells'. I don't know how much they sold for but I think the estimate given on the show might have been a bit on the low side.
