I still don't understand how they appeal to youngsters. Presumably the publishers have proof. Obviously most youngsters aren't very discerning these days - which proves that most wouldn't give a toss even if they were covers by Eileen Soper.
These are absolutely rubbish - the artist has no talent whatsoever. Sorry. it's not that they're modern - I would love to see some good modern illustrations on the Famous Five covers. I just hate this cartoon style - seems no illustrators used by Hachette can draw properly these days - obviously they pay them a pittance!
Betty Maxey was fine art compared to these, and yet no one seems to like her. At least she drew human beings!

Just when you think the covers couldn't possibly get worse - they do. On the other hand, I'm less bothered by the covers than by the alterations to the text.

Well they just get worse don't they! I wouldn't count on these specimens solving the simplest mystery. Would any of them be so idiotic as to stand up in a boat like that? They all look goofy. I see no appeal in them at all.
