Re: Website Additions
I'm using both a smartphone and a Kindle Fire. Both of them load the mobile version and neither display the Updates or the User Control Panel.
It could be that the iPad displays the desktop version of the site, Eddie; even though its not a proper desktop or a laptop it probably displays websites as desktop versions because it is a bigger tablet and more like a computer rather than a tiddly tablet or phone.

Thanks for your responses Nigel, Rob and Cathy.
I also have the "Updates" link on my 4s iPhone, which is quite old now.

I think, like every 'modern convenience' the modern iphone gives us less convenience than of old! I can also get the full version of the EB website on my (very old!) Samsung touch-screen phone, which is about 10 years old!

Re: Website Additions
I've just read Terry's review of The Mad Teapot, which is of great interest to me as I don't have any of those stories in my collection except 'Annabel's Nest'. 'The Mad Teapot' and 'Jimmy's Whip' sound particularly entertaining, and Molly Brett's cover is delightful!

Re: Website Additions
That is because you are viewing the website version, Eddie. Keith enabled a mobile version to make it clearer to view posts on a tiny screen.Eddie Muir wrote:I also have the "Updates" link on my 4s iPhone, which is quite old now.

Re: Website Additions
Thanks for the explanation, Nigel. However, I'm still rather puzzled. If Keith enabled a mobile version of the website, why doesn't Cathy get an 'enabled' version on her smartphone: one that displays the Updates? Am I missing something?

Re: Website Additions
The mobile versions of a site are always a bit second-rate compared to the full version, and usually have less features.
I always prefer the full version of sites, even on my mobile, but some people only use 'mobile versions' of the main site on their mobiles. It's a bit odd, really, considering that more and more people are accessing sites on mobile/iphones etc and yet are happy to put up with inferior versions! I've never really understood why mobile sites are so inferior - just so they load quicker, I think.

Doesn't it. Terry has certainly been a busy bee of late. I love the sound of The Mad Teapot. I wonder if I have it on my shelves.Julie2owlsdene wrote:Terry G has certainly been busy with yet another review and what looks a lovely little book.

The book or the teapot, Nigel? I like the cover but I prefer the one for What A Surprise. I saw some of these little books at a book fair recently but they were quite expensive. I shall continue to look out for them.

I love the sound of The Mad Teapot too, although I'm not sure I'd want to own the actual item of crockery — I prefer my teapots to behave themselves!!
Excellent reviews from Terry, too, I should add. I do prefer reviews that tell you enough about the story to make you want to read it, but don't give away the ending!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Website Additions
I know we've had this conversation before, LOL - but although I agree in some ways about 'spoilers' and plot revelations, I also think that every review can spoil the plot for the reader, even if the end isn't revealed!

I love the picture on the book that Terry has just reviewed, Come Along Twins, by Eileen Soper. Reminds me a bit of the illustration The Secret of the Old Mill.

Re: Website Additions
I agree it's a lovely picture, Julie. A very good review by Terry as always. My sister and I and our friends used to play 'Red Indians' sometimes, like Johnny and Jinny in 'The Red Indian Hat'. We'd make head-dresses using seagull feathers found in the garden, attached to strips of cardboard. We also made bows and arrows from sticks and string - they looked the part but didn't work too well.
As for girls not wearing a top hat, I had a plastic one as part of a magic set and I loved wearing it! My daughter wore it too when she did card tricks at the age of 9-10. She got pretty good at them and used to do little shows for friends and family.

Re: Website Additions
Nice review for 'The Train That Lost It's Way' - one of my favourite little books as a child - I had a more modern reprint but still in exactly the same format with same illustrations etc.
