It's strange that the seller even says "To quote" but doesn't say where s/he is quoting from. :?

An outrageous price - the book even has a child's drawing and Tippex on one page.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

This is a book I would love to read a pdf copy of to see what all the fuss is about!
I wonder if Wolfgang has a copy?

I am putting the whole book into the Cave chapter by chapter in the Sunny Stories section, I will put a link in when I have done so - I am just trying to get rid of the Journal first!

I have had an email from eBay telling me the 'good news' that the postage for this is free and I only have to pay £525.

There must be sparks coming off your scanner at the moment.

I had just about given up on ever reading this book!

... and you can spread the cost over 24 months as well, Tony. Maybe after one month they would forget about the remaining 23. :D ;)

Yes, thanks Tony.
I wonder why children didn't attend school until they were six years old.

Or can't go until they can read. Maybe things were different back in those days.

Thanks Tony. A lovely read.

It's sixty or more years since I last read Benjy and the Others, I look forward to reading it again. Thank you Tony for adding it to our wonderful Cave.

I would suspect that the children are going to private/boarding schools, as it says that Jane and Jack are going back on different days. In my experience, boys and girls attended the same primary schools, and were only separated by sex once they went to secondary/grammar school.

From the description of the house they live in, and the fact that they have a live-in maid, I can't imagine the family 'roughing it' by sending their children to the local school. ;)

Benjy and the Others is a sweet little story, thank you to Tony for adding the last three chapters yesterday. Despite it being 60 years since I last read it I remembered the bit about the moving staircase and the trip to the Zoo.

This is absolutely fantastic - thank you so much Tony.
The story starts in the cave here:

I have tried to put the whole series of images into a pdf that can be read at once for a short time:
