https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193866843016 ... SwEz1gEV4S" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This is a fascinating lot. It's a specimen or proof copy of the Newnes Pictorial Knowledge, which was a large series of books that were made available to families and schools etc. They came in various leather bound sets of 8, 10 and so on. They had a board of contributors that included Enid Blyton and Lord Baden-Powell.
They were beautifully illustrated with many coloured plates and illustrations.
This copy is a very rare, possibly one off specimen/proof copy, complete with a small stack of leaflets promoting the series and order forms.
Inside the hard-bound black cover front and back there are binding examples and then the whole book is put together with hundreds of specimen pages/examples of what these books would contain.
Certainly a must for any collector of this series of books. I've searched online and cannot find anything close to this.
There's a small amount of foxing and discolouration to the first few pages but then the book is pretty much mint throughout.
Hard to value but it's certainly very rare and price reflects the rarity and condition of this book.
Please study all the images carefully as they form an important part of the description.
There are articles that date to the late 1930's so i imagine that this fine and fascinating example of social history of the time dates to the late 30's.
Book is pretty heavy and large
