Re: Blyton References on TV

Just watching a programme on BBC Alba about people's memories of their schools on Harris, and one woman, probably about my age-ish, said that her favourite book as a child was "Don't be Silly Mr Twiddle", which made me smile.

Re: New Weekly Serial

The joke looks like this:

Doctor, I feel like a supermarket.

How long have you been feeling like this?

Since I was Lidl.

I'm really enjoying the serial, Daisy, although the SS were never by favourite Blyton characters.

Re: New Weekly Serial

I appear to have lost my most recent journal before taking a note of the password. Would some kind person mind PMing me the password, please? I want to finish Daisy's excellent serial before the new one starts on Monday, and I'd also like to be able to read that one from the start. :D And I do promi...

Re: Monthly Quiz

I can't speak for everyone else, and I'm not quite the quickest, but for me it's a mixture of speed reading and quick reactions. I also spend a lot ot my life doing times quizzes elsewhere, so I've had a lot of practice. Playing on my laptop, I can only see a few questions at a time, so I scroll dow...

FOR SALE - Five Get Into Trouble h/b 1964 impression

I've just been clearing out various old boxes of books that I've inherited from my grandmother, and I've come across a copy of Trouble. I don't really want to keep it myself, as I feel that I either want a complete set of hard backs or a complete set of paper backs, and I'm not yet at a stage in my ...

Re: How many books have you read this year?

100. 36 new books, and 64 re-reads. I was aiming for 100 in the year, and seem to have hit it with a couple of weeks to spare. No Blytons, though. :D

Re: What other author are you reading at the moment?

I second that. i first read "Sally's Family" a few months ago (GGBP edition as well), and it's a brilliant book. I stayed up later tahn I should have done, just to finish it, which isn't something I do often any more. :D

Re: Bill's Diary 1948

All of Bill's diaries were brilliant, and I think that Terry captures what I imagine Bill's style to be, really well. I'm looking forward to "Ship".

Re: Journal 51

Well, I've finally finished reading the journal, and it was a delight as always. I especially enjoyed Anita's Noddy article - for all that I've never read a Noddy book, it was interesting to see all the changes that had been made in the '80s - and Robert's concluding article on "Those Dreadful ...

Re: RIP Margaret Thatcher...

As Winston Churchill once said: Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains. A propos to this thread, maybe? As for me, I'm happy to be thought heartless now, as long as I'm thought of as clever in a few years....

Re: Errors in books

Hi everyone, I don't know if this is a real error, but I've just started The Mystery of the Invisible Thief and am really enjoying it. I found one thing rather peculiar. We are introduced to the Inspectors goddaughter, Hilary, though at one point she refers to him as her uncle:"I live at Norto...

Re: Journal 50

I received my journal yesterday, and devoured it before going to bed last night. There was a great collection of articles, I thought - I would say particularly so, but then the articles are always of high quality. Many thanks to all the contributors, and especially to Tony. Roll on the next 50 editi...

I didn't either, but then I live almost as far north as Fiona does, so it's not too surprising. I can't wait. :D

Thanks, Tony - it worked fine for me now. (And I'm top, for the moment! )

Another great quiz, whoever wrote it.
