I find them quite good and they aren't particularly modernized. Some of the sub-plots from the the old series seem to be recycled but on the whole, they are a decent read.

I'm halfway through New Term and it took me a while to get used to the characters but I think its quite good

I agree with you about thinking of Nazis, though I usually think more of ships when I read about the badge. I prefered Famous Five.
